Position Overview

Title: Undergrad Intern – Business Operations in R&D Strategy & Operations (RDSO)
Duration: ~12 weeks
Type: Project-based and experiential internship

As an R&D Business Operations Intern, you will work within Amgen’s R&D Strategy and Operations (RDSO) organization, which drives innovation beyond the molecule through digital transformation and process optimization.

You’ll collaborate with teams across Research & Development, Corporate Affairs, Digital Technology & Innovation, and Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging.


About RDSO Functional Areas

The RDSO organization consists of four core functions:

  1. Portfolio, Strategy & Execution – Insights-driven portfolio management and innovation in drug development.

  2. R&D Business Operations (BusOps) – Manages budget, suppliers, compliance, laboratories, and ESG initiatives.

  3. R&D Training & Development – Focuses on digital learning and talent cultivation.

  4. Strategy & Performance Excellence (SPx) – Drives strategic transformation and performance improvement.


Your Role in R&D Business Operations (BusOps)

You will support one or more of the following six verticals:

  • Budget Planning & Management: Aligns R&D financial planning and resource allocation.

  • Supplier Management: Manages third-party risk and external sourcing.

  • Global Business Transactions Center: Handles financial transactions and contracting.

  • Business Analytics: Converts analytics into actionable insights and measurable results.

  • Global Lab Operations: Enhances laboratory operational excellence.

  • Business Resilience: Oversees R&D business continuity and ESG programs.


What We Expect From You

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 18 years old.

  • Currently enrolled full-time in a Bachelor’s degree program (accredited college/university).

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0 or equivalent.

  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate study prior to internship start.

  • Must return to school following internship completion.

  • Must not be employed during internship.

  • Must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship for the internship).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Majoring in Business, Finance, Management Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering, Communications, Psychology, HR, or Information Science.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organization and multitasking abilities.

  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to learn.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities.

  • Basic project management understanding is a plus.
