Trainee Technician - Haemodialysis

Job Overview:

As a Trainee Technician, you will assist in setting up and operating the haemodialysis machine to provide essential dialysis treatment for patients with kidney failure. This is an entry-level role where you will learn the technical aspects of haemodialysis, including machine setup, patient interaction, and monitoring for malfunctions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup:
    • Attach dialyzer and tubing to the machine and prime the extracorporeal circuits with 0.9% normal saline to prepare the machine for use.
    • Label dialyzer and blood lines with patient name and ID prior to the first use.
    • Prepare dialysis solutions and mix bicarbonate according to the specified formula.
  • Patient Interaction:
    • Explain the dialysis procedure and machine operation to patients to reduce any anxieties.
    • Connect haemodialysis machine to the patient’s access site to initiate the dialysis process.
  • Monitoring & Maintenance:
    • Monitor the haemodialysis machine for any malfunctions during treatment.
    • Maintain log books, forms, and registers to document all processes and patient data accurately.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Basic qualifications related to healthcare, preferably in dialysis or technical support.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in machine setup and patient care.
  • Good communication skills to explain the process to patients and collaborate with the medical team.
  • Ability to monitor equipment for faults and report issues promptly.
  • Basic understanding of medical equipment and safety protocols is preferred but not required for entry-level candidates.
