Overview

This role offers the opportunity to lead scientific communication strategy across high-impact therapeutic areas within a globally recognized healthcare leader. As a Team Lead – Scientific Writing, you will guide scientific writers, drive publication excellence, influence medical communication strategy, and collaborate with global cross-functional partners. The position demands strong scientific expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to deliver high-quality content within a dynamic, innovation-driven environment.

About the Role

The Team Lead – Scientific Writing will oversee scientific writers, manage publication and communication plans, and support global medical, HEVA, and commercial functions. This position sits within Sanofi Business Operations (BO), a centralized scientific operations hub supporting multiple portfolios across Specialty Care, Vaccines, General Medicines, R&D, and Digital functions.

You will act as a strategic thought partner to therapeutic area (TA) leads, support content excellence, and ensure timely delivery of compliant scientific materials.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and manage a team of expert and senior scientific writers.

  • Coach, mentor, and build writing capabilities within the team.

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including global medical and scientific communities.

  • Ensure the team leverages new digital technologies and advanced content-development tools.

Strategic & Performance Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic partner to therapeutic area scientific communication leads.

  • Contribute insights to publication and communication plans.

  • Oversee delivery of scientific materials such as manuscripts, posters, abstracts, and medical education content.

  • Ensure adherence to agreed timelines, scientific quality standards, and compliance requirements.

  • Support development of tools, processes, and technologies that enhance productivity and publication excellence.

Process Excellence

  • Oversee project execution, including resource planning, quality control, and timeliness.

  • Ensure high scientific standards across all deliverables produced by the writing team.

  • Strengthen compliance by enforcing regulatory requirements and internal publication standards.

  • Support continuous improvement through digital transformation, training tools, and structured feedback mechanisms.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with scientific communication teams across regions to evaluate publication needs.

  • Partner with medical stakeholders to create customized and impactful scientific communication content.

  • Maintain strong functional relationships to support publication planning and medical education activities.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 9 years of experience in scientific content development within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or academic sectors.

  • More than 6 years of leadership experience in managing scientific writing teams or publication programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate, and lead cross-functional teams.

  • Proven experience across multiple therapeutic areas within a single Global Business Unit (GBU).

  • Deep knowledge in scientific communication, publication planning, medical writing, and project management.

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in scientific and medical communication across multiple therapeutic areas.

  • Strong understanding of publication and medical education content requirements.

  • Experience with publication management systems and structured content workflows.

  • Ability to implement innovative tools and digital solutions for content development.

Soft Skills

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.

  • Team leadership, mentoring skills, and ability to work in a global matrix environment.

  • Excellent written and spoken English proficiency.

Education

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, or a related scientific discipline.
