Job Purpose

The Team Lead – Assay Biologist will lead a team of scientists in the Assay Development Group, overseeing the development and qualification of cell-free biochemical and biophysical assays. The role involves client interfacing, project management, assay development, troubleshooting, and data analysis while ensuring compliance with quality, regulatory, and EHS standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of scientists, including goal setting, mentoring, task assignment, and performance evaluation.

  • Drive the scientific execution of cell-free and biochemical assays, troubleshoot experiments, and ensure accurate data interpretation.

  • Lead client-facing projects, providing regular updates and transparent communication on project progress.

  • Develop, qualify, and execute high-throughput assays using multiple formats: HTRF, FP, TR-FRET, AlphaLISA, Luminescence, HiBiT, qPCR, and label-free technologies.

  • Conduct Mechanism of Action (MoA) determination assays for small molecules, including enzyme inhibition, protein-protein interactions, and ternary complexes.

  • Oversee assay screening for primary and secondary compound evaluations to support Structure-Activity Relationship (SAR) studies.

  • Maintain compliance with EHS protocols, biosafety guidelines, and company policies.

  • Review and approve electronic laboratory notebooks, raw data, and study reports to ensure data integrity.

  • Present technical data effectively using Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism, and statistical tools.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative assay platforms and improve laboratory practices.


Educational Qualification

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or related fields.


Technical & Functional Skills

  • Expertise in assay development and validation for biochemical and cell-based formats.

  • Strong understanding of high-throughput screening, assay miniaturization (96-, 384-, 1536-well formats), and automation.

  • Proficiency with multi-mode readers, liquid handlers, and laboratory automation systems.

  • Experience in compound screening, SAR analysis, and QC parameters for assay performance.

  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines related to biosafety and statistical data analysis.

  • Proven experience in leading assay development teams and delivering results in a drug discovery or related research environment.

  • Hands-on experience with cell-free biochemical and biophysical assay development.
