Position Overview

The Strategic Account Manager will support the launch of a cardiovascular product within the critical care segment across the Sacramento region. This senior-level, field-based role focuses on driving institutional adoption and optimizing market access across complex healthcare systems, including academic medical centers, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), and group purchasing organizations (GPOs).

Reporting to the Area Business Director, this role serves as a key regional liaison for priority accounts and plays a critical role in executing access strategies within hospital and institutional channels.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Account Development & Institutional Access

  • Drive product adoption within academic institutions, IDNs, and GPOs by engaging key prescribers and decision-makers

  • Develop detailed account plans outlining protocol pathways, formulary strategies, and pull-through targets

  • Support formulary inclusion through collaboration with Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) committees

  • Navigate complex hospital procurement and contracting environments

Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with Managed Markets, Trade, Value & Access, Contracting, Medical Affairs, HEOR, and Marketing teams

  • Coordinate with National Account Managers to align pricing, contracting, and reimbursement strategies

  • Work closely with Area Sales Directors, Account Managers, and Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs)

Operational & Clinical Integration

  • Engage pharmacy directors, medical directors, contracting managers, and service line leaders

  • Support integration within EMR systems, CPOE workflows, and institutional order set development

  • Ensure alignment between clinical value messaging and institutional access strategy

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) required

  • 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry

  • Minimum 7+ years managing large academic health systems, IDNs, and/or GPO accounts

  • Experience in Critical Care or Cardiology markets preferred

  • Demonstrated contract negotiation and management experience

  • Strong understanding of managed care coverage, reimbursement, and market access pathways

  • Experience collaborating across commercial, medical, and access functions

  • Working knowledge of EMR systems, CPOE processes, and hospital order set implementation

  • Ability to travel more than 50%

Cardiology launch experience and/or startup pharmaceutical experience is highly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $195,000 to $210,000. Final compensation will depend on experience, skills, geographic factors, and demonstrated competencies. This role may include eligibility for performance-based commissions or bonuses.
