Position Overview

The Strategic Account Manager will support the launch of a cardiovascular product within the critical care segment. This highly strategic, field-based leadership role focuses on driving product adoption and institutional market access across complex healthcare systems including academic medical centers, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), and group purchasing organizations (GPOs).

Reporting to the Area Business Director, this role serves as the primary liaison for priority regional accounts and plays a critical role in shaping execution within institutional and hospital-based channels.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Account Development & Market Access

  • Drive business development and product adoption within academic health systems, IDNs, and GPOs

  • Identify and engage prescribers, influencers, pharmacy leadership, and institutional decision-makers

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive account plans, including protocol pathways and pull-through strategies

  • Support formulary access through engagement with Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) committees

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Managed Markets, Trade, Value & Access, Contracting, Medical Affairs, HEOR, and Marketing teams

  • Collaborate with National Account Managers and Managed Markets leadership to align on pricing, contracting, and reimbursement strategies

  • Work closely with Area Sales Directors, Account Managers, and Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs)

Institutional Engagement & Execution

  • Engage pharmacy directors, medical directors, contracting managers, service line directors, and clinical stakeholders

  • Support development of EMR integration, CPOE systems, and institutional order sets

  • Navigate complex hospital procurement and reimbursement environments

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) required

  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience managing large academic health systems, IDNs, and/or GPOs

  • Experience in Critical Care, Cardiology, or specialty hospital markets preferred

  • Demonstrated contract management experience

  • Strong knowledge of managed care coverage, reimbursement pathways, and product access strategies

  • Experience collaborating across commercial, medical, and market access functions

  • Working knowledge of EMR systems, CPOE workflows, and institutional order set development

  • Ability to travel more than 50%

Cardiology launch experience or startup pharmaceutical experience is highly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual base salary range for this role is $195,000 to $210,000. Actual compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, geographic considerations, and demonstrated competencies. The position may also include eligibility for commission or bonus incentives based on company and individual performance.
