Position Overview:

Labcorp Drug Development is seeking a Senior Clinical Veterinarian to provide medical and surgical care for laboratory animals, support compliance with animal welfare regulations, and train technicians. The role also involves regulatory oversight and scientific contributions in the field of Laboratory Animal Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide independent, senior-level veterinary care for laboratory animals.
  • Assist the site lead veterinarian in ensuring compliance with animal care and welfare regulations.
  • Train staff on animal health, welfare, and veterinary procedures.
  • Support regulatory and administrative duties (e.g., USDA compliance, AAALAC accreditation, client visits).
  • Serve on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) or Ethical Review Panel (ERP) as needed.
  • Conduct physical and ophthalmic examinations per protocols and SOPs.
  • Provide scientific expertise in animal health, biology, and research methodologies.
  • Attend scientific meetings, contribute to publications and presentations, and provide leadership in scientific organizations.
  • Address animal care concerns and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Offer specialized expertise in areas such as anesthesia and ocular health.
  • Lead and complete team projects as assigned.
  • Mentor junior veterinarians and technicians.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an AVMA-accredited program (ECFVG or PAVE certification required for foreign degrees).
  • 4-5 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine.
  • Veterinary license in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to obtain state licensure and USDA accreditation within 6 months.
  • Board certification or eligibility in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) (preferred).
  • Experience with small and large animals used in research.
  • Surgical model expertise and experience with complex anesthesia/analgesia protocols (preferred).
  • Clinical and surgical management experience with canines and nonhuman primates (preferred).
  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting with research animals.
