Job Overview
The Senior Statistical Programmer will manage a team of Statistical Programming (SP) professionals, overseeing hiring, training, supervision, and performance evaluation. This role involves developing and implementing standardized programming procedures, optimizing team resources, and leading major statistical programming projects. The individual will serve as a senior technical expert and consultant, ensuring delivery excellence and alignment with organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Leadership Duties
Serve as a Statistical Programming consultant to internal teams and other Biostatistics departments.
Stay updated on advancements in statistical programming tools, technologies, and methodologies.
Act as a high-level lead programmer for major clinical research projects.
Provide technical guidance and solutions for both internal and external clients.
Conduct expert review of process improvements, validation, and SP standards.
Independently resolve complex programming challenges and deliver strategic project solutions.
Team Management
Conduct bi-monthly one-on-one meetings with direct reports to review:
Project timelines, deliverables, and financial metrics.
Risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
Training progress and SOP compliance.
Career goals, engagement, and performance.
Develop and execute employee engagement plans ensuring global consistency.
Oversee resource allocation, staffing, and workload distribution across multiple projects.
Maintain clear communication flow between leadership and teams.
Ensure coverage and continuity during absences or turnover.
Operational & Strategic Involvement
Represent Statistical Programming in Bid Defenses, Kick-off Meetings (KOMs), and Request for Information/Pricing (RFI/RFP) activities.
Support internal and external audits by ensuring team readiness and compliance.
Contribute to budget forecasting, project finance tracking, and efficiency improvements.
Promote cross-functional collaboration across global IQVIA teams.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience (including 1 year in a leadership role), OR
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience (including 1 year in a leadership role), OR
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Technical Competencies
Advanced expertise in SAS programming and database technologies.
Sound understanding of statistics and clinical drug development processes.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and timelines effectively.
Leadership & Communication Skills
Proven staff management, leadership, and motivational abilities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Effective mentoring, coaching, and performance management capabilities.
Skilled in risk identification, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Competence in project financials (EAC, forecasting, burn-rate, out-of-scope tracking).
Ability to drive business and financial results through strategic planning.
