1. Role Overview

This role focuses on real-world data (RWD) programming and analytics supporting epidemiology and clinical research. The position involves working with large healthcare datasets, developing analytical programs, and ensuring alignment with study protocols and statistical requirements.

The role combines:

  • Statistical programming

  • Data science / analytics

  • Epidemiology support

  • Real-world evidence (RWE) generation


2. Key Responsibilities

A. Programming & Data Analysis

  • Develop programs using SAS, R, Python, or SQL for real-world datasets

  • Generate:

    • Summary tables

    • Listings

    • Graphs

    • Analysis datasets

  • Support cohort creation and study variable derivation

  • Handle complex and messy healthcare data


B. Study & Protocol Support

  • Review and interpret study protocols and SAPs

  • Define:

    • Index dates

    • Follow-up periods

    • Cohort logic

  • Prepare and validate programming specifications

  • Ensure outputs align with scientific and regulatory requirements


C. Real-World Data Handling

  • Work with large commercial healthcare databases:

    • Optum

    • HealthVerity

    • IQVIA Pharmetrics

  • Preferred experience:

    • MarketScan

    • Medicaid / Medicare

    • VA datasets

  • Use ICD coding and clinical terminologies

  • Understand OMOP Common Data Model (CDM)

  • Transform raw healthcare data into standardized analytical formats


D. Statistical & Machine Learning Methods

  • Apply statistical modeling such as:

    • Generalized Linear Models (GLM)

    • Logistic regression

    • Cox proportional hazards

    • Propensity score matching

    • Incidence rate calculations

  • Exposure to AI/ML is preferred:

    • LLM-based workflows

    • Basic machine learning modeling

  • Optional: advanced AI/ML experience is a plus


E. Quality, Validation & Compliance

  • Perform validation programming and QC checks

  • Ensure compliance with:

    • SOPs

    • ICH guidelines

    • Study requirements

  • Maintain audit-ready documentation

  • Resolve discrepancies with cross-functional teams:

    • Epidemiologists

    • Biostatisticians

    • Programmers


F. Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate programming progress and risks

  • Participate in internal and sponsor meetings

  • Provide input on:

    • SAPs

    • Database structures

    • Programming specifications

  • Support mentoring and knowledge sharing


3. Required Skills & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:

    • Biostatistics

    • Epidemiology

    • Mathematics

    • Scientific or statistical field


Technical Skills

  • Strong programming in:

    • SAS OR R

    • Python (preferred)

    • SQL (required)

  • Experience with:

    • Real-world data (RWD/RWE)

    • Cohort building

    • Healthcare claims/EHR data


Domain Knowledge

  • ICD coding systems

  • Clinical terminology

  • Study design interpretation

  • OMOP CDM understanding

  • Experience with messy, real-world datasets


Nice-to-Have Skills

  • AI/ML experience
