Role Summary:
Pfizer is seeking a Senior Medical Director – Gastroenterology & Rheumatology to provide strategic leadership within the US Specialty Care Medical Affairs (US SCMA) team. Reporting to the US SCMA Lead, this role will support both current in-line and pipeline assets in the therapeutic areas of Gastroenterology and Rheumatology. The successful candidate will leverage medical and scientific expertise, combined with patient and physician insights, to contribute to strategic business initiatives and cross-functional decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical & Scientific Expertise

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned therapeutic areas, providing up-to-date and accurate medical knowledge to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Evaluate benefit-risk profiles for therapies based on emerging data.

  • Translate complex clinical and commercial information to drive evidence-based education and decision-making.

Strategic Planning & Collaboration

  • Contribute to concept and strategic planning considering the perspectives of patients, physicians, and stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with Global and regional Medical Affairs, Marketing/Commercial teams, and Pfizer research groups to shape lifecycle planning and operational strategies.

  • Support publication strategy, including planning, review, and implementation of medical communications and scientific materials.

External Engagement & Representation

  • Lead and organize advisory boards, congresses, symposia, and other external meetings.

  • Represent Pfizer in external engagements and committees, providing expert medical insight.

  • Contribute to the review and approval of US promotional materials to ensure medical accuracy and compliance.

Leadership & Team Contribution

  • Provide strategic guidance within cross-functional teams, enhancing team performance and alignment with corporate objectives.

  • Manage vendors and budgets, ensuring optimal resource utilization.

  • Develop leadership capabilities by mentoring peers and participating in continuous professional development.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

Education & Training:

  • MD or DO degree with 5+ years of industry experience in US Medical Affairs.

  • Clinical experience treating patients with immunoinflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease.

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive strategic outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialty training and board certification in Rheumatology or Gastroenterology.

  • Strong presentation and communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage internal and external stakeholders effectively.

  • Experience contributing to strategic business plans, publication strategy, and lifecycle planning for pharmaceutical products.

Work Arrangement & Travel:

  • Hybrid work model.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% for external engagements.

  • No relocation package offered.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Annual base salary: $254,100 – $403,400

  • Eligible for Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a 25% bonus target and participation in share-based long-term incentive program.
