Position Overview

The Senior Director, Business Development is a strategic commercial leader responsible for driving revenue growth across a defined geographic territory and portfolio of accounts within the healthcare, life sciences, and biopharmaceutical sectors.

This role combines strategic account expansion (“farming”) with proactive new business acquisition (“hunting”). The Senior Director will lead complex B2B sales cycles, develop executive-level client relationships, and orchestrate cross-functional solution development across clinical and commercial service lines.

This position is ideal for senior business development professionals with deep expertise in CRO services, clinical outsourcing, biopharma commercialization, and enterprise-level solution selling.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in healthcare, life sciences, CRO, or biopharmaceutical industries

  • Proven track record in business development, strategic sales, or commercial leadership roles

  • Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-stakeholder B2B sales cycles

  • Experience selling clinical development, commercial, or integrated biopharma solutions preferred

  • Prior experience working with executive-level decision-makers in mid-to-large biopharma organizations

Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent) preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sales & Territory Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive territory sales strategy balancing new client acquisition and account growth

  • Manage and prioritize a defined book of business using data-driven market insights

  • Conduct territory performance reviews and adjust pipeline strategies accordingly

Client Relationship Management

  • Identify and engage decision-makers, influencers, and C-suite stakeholders

  • Build trusted advisory relationships across clinical, commercial, and operational functions

  • Act as an internal client advocate by sharing insights on client strategy, culture, and priorities

Solution Development & Deal Execution

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with operations, therapeutic strategy, delivery, and deal teams

  • Design customized, multi-touchpoint sales strategies aligned with client needs

  • Drive expansion initiatives including renewals, next-phase conversions, and therapeutically aligned growth strategies

Market & Industry Intelligence

  • Stay current on global biopharma trends, CRO competition, and evolving clinical outsourcing models

  • Represent the organization at industry conferences and executive-level client engagements

  • Educate clients on differentiated clinical and commercial capabilities

CRM & Forecasting

  • Maintain accurate pipeline reporting and forecasting within Salesforce or similar CRM platforms

  • Track opportunity progression and manage revenue projections

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred

  • Strong consultative selling and strategic negotiation skills

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders

  • Data-driven mindset with strong business acumen

  • Proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to travel up to 40% for client meetings and industry events

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary Range:
$161,300 – $306,500 annually

Compensation will vary based on experience, competencies, territory responsibility, and overall qualifications. Eligible candidates may also participate in commission or performance-based bonus programs.
