Role Overview

The Senior Survey Workflow Designer will lead the development of structured, intuitive and compliant survey workflows used to support medical device troubleshooting, complaint handling and customer experience optimization. This position is an on-site, Monday–Friday role based at Abbott Diabetes Care in Alameda, California. The ideal candidate brings strong technical writing expertise, proficiency in process mapping and the ability to translate complex medical device information into user-friendly, regulatory-compliant survey logic.

This role directly supports quality operations, product performance and operational efficiency by developing high-impact documentation that enhances accuracy, usability and regulatory alignment.

Key Responsibilities

Survey and Workflow Development

  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting surveys for medical device complaint handling and customer support.

  • Create and present workflow diagrams using tools such as Visio.

  • Ensure surveys support regulatory, quality and operational requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with R&D, Quality, Customer Service, Engineering and Product Management teams.

  • Lead content review sessions to validate accuracy, clarity and usability.

  • Address documentation issues related to complaints, CAPA activities and system integrations.

Process and Quality Optimization

  • Partner with IT teams to implement surveys within complaint management systems.

  • Improve and streamline documentation processes while promoting opportunities for automation.

  • Ensure alignment with FDA, ISO, CAPA and complaint-handling standards.

  • Maintain strict version control and documentation integrity.

Leadership and Reporting

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior writers.

  • Present project updates, workflow changes and quality improvements to stakeholders.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Life Sciences or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical writing or survey workflow design within medical devices or other regulated industries.

  • Strong ability to simplify complex technical concepts into clear documentation.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments.

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Visio or equivalent tools for process mapping and logic diagrams.

  • Strong command of Microsoft Office tools.

  • Experience with FDA, ISO, complaint handling processes and CAPA workflows.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical and project management capabilities.


Compensation

Base salary range: $86,700 – $173,300.
Actual compensation may vary by location and experience.
