Role Overview: Translational Modeling and Simulation (TMS) Scientist – Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics, and Metabolism (PDM)

Pfizer is seeking a Translational Modeling and Simulation (TMS) Scientist to join their Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics, and Metabolism (PDM) team. In this role, you will be a key contributor to developing and applying quantitative pharmacology models (such as PKPD, PBPK, and QSP) to guide drug development, focusing on oncology with opportunities in other therapeutic areas, such as immunology, inflammation, metabolic diseases, and infectious diseases. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional project teams from project ideation to early clinical development, supporting both biologics and small molecule modalities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Model Development and Application:

    • Develop and implement mechanistic mathematical models (e.g., PKPD, PBPK, QSP) to support target selection, prioritization, therapeutic modality choice, and optimization of both chemical and biotherapeutic candidates.
    • Quantify exposure-response relationships and assist with biomarker characterization and early clinical trial design.
  2. Collaboration with Research Teams:

    • Collaborate with research biology to design in-vitro assays and in-vivo models that inform preclinical-to-clinical translational PKPD models.
    • Partner with Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics teams to ensure alignment of model-informed drug development (MIDD) strategies.
  3. Expert Support to Project Teams:

    • Provide expert modeling and simulation support to project teams, interpreting study results and offering insights to optimize drug development strategies.
    • Share knowledge of modeling and simulation best practices with global teams to enhance consistency and impact across sites and disease areas.
  4. Career Development and Knowledge Sharing:

    • Keep up with the latest research and advancements in mechanistic modeling and simulation.
    • Contribute to publications and presentations in the area of PKPD modeling, enhancing Pfizer’s reputation in this field.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in pharmaceutical sciences, systems pharmacology, pharmacometrics, engineering, mathematics, physics, or similar disciplines.
  • 0-3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related field, specifically in applying mechanistic PKPD models from early discovery through early clinical development.
  • Strong understanding of the principles and statistical aspects of advanced mathematical modeling and simulation.
  • Proficiency in modeling software (e.g., NONMEM, MATLAB, Monolix, Berkeley-Madonna, R).
  • Ability to translate modeling outcomes into actionable insights for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the oncology therapeutic area.
  • Experience with both small molecules and biotherapeutics.
  • Familiarity with quantitative pharmacology models (e.g., PBPK, PKPD, QSP) and their application in drug development.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • The position involves office work and use of a computer, requiring the ability to implement complex mathematical models.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base Salary: $88,300 - $147,100 annually.
  • Bonus: Eligible for Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary.
  • Benefits: Includes 401(k) with Pfizer matching contributions, paid vacation, holidays, medical, prescription, dental, and vision coverage, and more.
  • Relocation Support: Available based on business needs.

Other Information:

  • Work Location: On-premise.
  • Relocation Assistance: Available based on business needs or eligibility.
  • Pfizer is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace. The role requires permanent work authorization in the United States.

Deadline to Apply:

  • November 28, 2024

This role provides the opportunity to significantly impact drug development through cutting-edge modeling and simulation expertise, particularly in oncology and other critical therapeutic areas.
