AstraZeneca’s Oncology Outcomes Research (O2R) team operates within the Evidence Generation & External Alliances organization in Global Medical Affairs.
The team develops impactful real-world, economic, and patient-reported evidence strategies to communicate the medical value of the oncology portfolio.


Role Overview

The Senior Scientist, Oncology Outcomes Research is an individual contributor role and a key part of the Asset Team.
Reporting to the Asset Lead, you will lead the execution of global and US health outcomes and real-world evidence strategies.

This role requires strong scientific foundation in HEOR, analytical thinking, business acumen, and excellent interpersonal skills.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy & Implementation

  • Lead execution of global and US real-world evidence (RWE) and health outcomes strategies.

  • Support design, implementation, and communication of studies with internal partners.

  • Contribute to asset-specific strategic plans within the Oncology portfolio.


2. Research & Evidence Generation

  • Apply epidemiological and health outcomes methodologies to generate high-quality evidence.

  • Lead HEOR and pharmacoepidemiologic projects across the product lifecycle.

  • Support interpretation, communication, and dissemination of research outputs.


3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with stakeholders across Global Medical, US Medical, O2R, Franchise, and cross-functional teams.

  • Aid evidence generation that will support payer and healthcare provider decision-making.


4. Thought Leadership & Expertise

  • Maintain expertise in:

    • Oncology

    • Real-world data

    • Disease area landscapes

    • Competitive and payer dynamics

  • Communicate complex insights to scientific and non-scientific audiences.


Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Graduate degree strongly preferred: PhD, MS, MPH in:

    • Health Economics

    • Epidemiology

    • Outcomes Research

    • Related disciplines

  • Applied understanding of:

    • Epidemiology and HEOR methodologies

    • RWE research methods

    • Pharmacoepidemiologic models

  • Strong analytical, judgment, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific degree (PhD ideal).

  • 3+ years HEOR or Outcomes Research experience within the industry.

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration within an evidence-generation organization.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Base Pay Range:
    $113,947.20 – $170,920.80 (based on experience, skills, market factors)

  • Additional Compensation:

    • Short-term incentive bonus

    • Long-term equity incentive eligibility (salaried roles)

    • Commission eligibility (applicable to sales roles)
