Job Overview

The Senior Scientist will provide technical leadership in product and process research and development within the diabetes care domain. This role focuses on supporting design, development, analysis, and troubleshooting activities while translating product and customer requirements into technical specifications.

The position involves conducting complex scientific research, developing product formulations and analytical methods, and coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver research outcomes. The Senior Scientist will also support validation activities, pilot studies, and training initiatives while ensuring adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.

This is an on-site role based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Relocation benefits are not provided.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in product and process research and development, including design, development, analysis, and troubleshooting activities.

  • Translate customer and product requirements into detailed design specifications and project deliverables.

  • Design and conduct complex scientific experiments to support product formulation and analytical method development.

  • Apply advanced knowledge in analytical chemistry, electrochemistry, biosensors, in-vitro diagnostics, and biomedical engineering.

  • Support pilot studies, validation processes, and technical training activities.

  • Provide subject matter expertise and strategic guidance to departmental leadership.

  • Mentor and guide junior team members on scientific and technical matters.

  • Maintain and continuously improve quality systems and ensure compliance with quality objectives.

  • Independently identify technical opportunities, risks, and alternative solutions.

  • Lead cross-functional and interdepartmental research projects and decision-making processes.

  • Support innovation initiatives related to blood glucose monitoring and diabetes management technologies.


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related life sciences discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related life sciences discipline with at least 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Minimum 6 years of innovative scientific experience in academic or industry settings within an appropriate technical field.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply scientific principles to complex technical challenges and make independent decisions based on data analysis.

  • Proven track record of achievements in patents, technical publications, or product design and development.

  • Experience leading complex technical projects and working in cross-functional or matrix environments.

  • Strong expertise in analytical chemistry, biosensors, electrochemistry, in-vitro diagnostics, or biomedical engineering.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a regulated product development environment.

  • Experience supporting development of commercialized medical devices or diagnostic instruments.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Advanced problem-solving abilities and capacity to work in dynamic or ambiguous situations.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities efficiently.


Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position in Indianapolis, Indiana is USD 95,000 to USD 177,000 annually. Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors. Eligible employees may receive performance-based bonuses and comprehensive benefits.
