Job Overview
Novartis is seeking a Senior Scientific Writer II to develop high-quality scientific and medical communications aligned with therapeutic area strategies and brand scientific narratives. This role plays a critical part in translating complex clinical data into clear, accurate, and evidence-based scientific content used for medical education, congress presentations, advisory boards, and internal medical engagements.

The Senior Scientific Writer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across Global Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and International Medical Affairs to ensure consistent messaging and high-quality scientific communication. Candidates must have experience in at least one therapeutic area, including Oncology, Cardiovascular, Renal, Neuroscience, or Immunology.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Content Development

  • Develop a wide range of scientific communication materials including medical education slide decks, advisory board presentations, and internal medical engagement assets.

  • Create congress-related materials such as symposium presentations, speaker briefing documents, and scientific slide content.

  • Interpret complex clinical and scientific data and translate it into accurate, evidence-based communication materials.

  • Ensure scientific accuracy, clarity, and consistency across all deliverables while maintaining high-quality editorial standards.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously across different brands or therapeutic areas while meeting strict timelines.

Congress and Scientific Engagement Support

  • Support scientific congress activities by developing educational content and presentation materials.

  • Assist in preparing scientific narratives for symposia, advisory board discussions, and medical education initiatives.

  • Ensure alignment between clinical data, scientific messaging, and therapeutic area strategies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders across International Medical Affairs, Global Medical Affairs, and clinical teams.

  • Participate in collaborative discussions to refine scientific messaging and ensure alignment with medical strategies.

  • Contribute to improving content formats, digital communication tools, and scientific engagement strategies.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure all materials comply with internal policies, regulatory guidelines, and scientific governance frameworks.

  • Follow established templates, documentation standards, and quality control processes.

  • Maintain accurate version control, documentation trails, and audit-ready records throughout the content lifecycle.

Operational Excellence in Scientific Communication

  • Support structured content development approaches using digital platforms and modular content frameworks.

  • Maintain high standards of scientific rigor, consistency, and compliance across all communication materials.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong expertise in scientific and medical writing within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare communications environments.

  • Ability to interpret complex clinical data and translate it into clear and impactful scientific communication.

  • Strong understanding of medical review processes, compliance frameworks, and regulatory documentation standards.

  • Experience working in matrix-based, cross-functional global teams.

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines.

  • Proficiency with digital content platforms and structured scientific communication tools.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Therapeutic Area Expertise
Candidates must have experience in at least one of the following therapeutic areas:

Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences with at least 8 years of relevant experience in scientific writing.

  • Candidates with advanced degrees such as PhD, MD, or Postdoctoral training typically require 3–4 years of relevant experience.

  • Proven experience developing medical communications, congress materials, and educational scientific content.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional global environments and deliver high-quality scientific content.
