Job Summary

The Senior Operations Analyst is responsible for driving revenue cycle quality improvements by managing complex Accounts Receivable (AR) calling and denial management workflows. The role focuses on identifying root causes of recurring denial issues, improving operational performance, and ensuring high-quality execution within healthcare revenue cycle management (RCM) processes. The position reports to the Operations Manager.


Team Overview

The Operations team supports critical healthcare revenue cycle workflows within athenahealth. The team works across athenaClinicals and athenaCollector systems, collaborating with customers and internal stakeholders. The role contributes to improving operational efficiency, workflow quality, and service delivery using athenaNet platform insights.


Key Responsibilities

Revenue Cycle Management & Analysis

  • Analyze RCM performance data to identify trends in AR calling outcomes and denial patterns

  • Own and manage complex AR calling and denial workflows

  • Review denial reasons and supporting documentation to determine corrective actions

  • Ensure timely and accurate resolution of AR and denial cases

Operations & Issue Resolution

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve claim/denial-related issues

  • Reduce delays and rework across operational workflows

  • Document case details, actions taken, and outcomes for traceability and audit readiness

  • Ensure adherence to SOPs and operational quality standards

Root Cause Analysis & Process Improvement

  • Identify root causes of recurring denial trends

  • Recommend and support implementation of process improvements

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy

  • Support special investigations and deep-dive analysis of escalated issues

Reporting & Metrics

  • Track and report key operational performance metrics

  • Communicate escalation themes and operational insights to leadership

  • Support goal tracking and performance monitoring initiatives

Quality & Collaboration

  • Participate in quality calibration sessions

  • Support updates to process documentation and job aids

  • Assist in training and mentoring peers on denial management practices

  • Ensure compliance with audit and documentation requirements

Technology & Tools

  • Use athenaNet platform and internal systems for workflow management

  • Leverage AI-enabled tools (where applicable) for summarization and anomaly detection while ensuring human validation


Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • 4–6 years of experience in Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) or related operational/analytical roles

  • Experience in AR calling and denial management workflows

  • Strong understanding of claims processing, denial drivers, and resolution workflows

  • Experience working with SOPs and operational quality frameworks

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, etc.)

  • Strong documentation and reporting skills

  • Ability to analyze operational data and identify trends

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to manage complex workflows independently

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills
