Role Overview:

As a Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Obesity, West Region, you will serve as the primary scientific and clinical resource for Opinion Leaders (OLs), Population Health Decision Makers (PHDMs), and healthcare providers across a large Western US territory including WA, ID, OR, AK, CA, NV, AZ, NM, CO, UT, WY, MT, and HI. Reporting to the Obesity MSL Lead, you will advance Amgen’s medical and product strategy to improve patient outcomes in obesity and related conditions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct peer-to-peer scientific exchanges with Opinion Leaders, healthcare providers, and PHDMs to communicate Amgen’s scientific platform.

  • Engage with clinical investigators and study sites supporting the obesity pipeline.

  • Share clinical, outcomes, and economic data with PHDMs in Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) and institutions.

  • Connect internal and external stakeholders to expand patient access to Amgen’s therapies.

  • Ensure communications comply with MSL standards and compliance guidelines.

  • Support Amgen-sponsored research; potentially lead studies.

  • Liaise with potential investigators for non-sponsored clinical research.

  • Provide field insights and feedback to internal teams to inform company strategy.

  • Lead and participate in congress activities aligned with medical strategy.

  • Support speaker training and keep speakers updated on scientific data.

  • Participate in project teams supporting MSL strategies and collaborate with other Amgen field roles for coordinated outreach.

  • Mentor junior MSLs as designated.

  • Complete administrative duties and training (CRM, expenses, compliance) promptly.

  • Maintain up-to-date scientific knowledge and industry trends.

  • Build and maintain strong external stakeholder relationships with excellent communication skills.


Basic Qualifications (one of the following):

  • Doctorate degree + 2 years Medical Affairs experience

  • Master’s degree + 6 years Medical Affairs experience

  • Bachelor’s degree + 8 years Medical Affairs experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D., D.O., or other doctoral degrees considered

  • 7+ years in medically related field, including at least 1 year in clinical practice, research, or medical research (including residencies/fellowships)

  • 2+ years as an MSL in biotech or pharmaceutical industry

  • Current experience in Scientific or Medical Affairs at a biotech/pharmaceutical company

  • Expertise in cardiometabolic and/or obesity therapeutic areas

  • Familiarity with the designated West Region territory
