Role Overview

The Senior Medical Director – Patient Safety plays a pivotal role in ensuring medical safety and risk management across GE Healthcare products, with a primary focus on radiologic imaging modalities. Reporting to the Chief Medical & Safety Officer (CMSO), this position oversees pre-market and post-market patient safety strategies, adverse event monitoring, risk assessment, and clinical trial safety oversight.

This leadership role bridges clinical expertise, regulatory standards, and product development to safeguard patients, optimize clinical outcomes, and ensure compliance across all product lifecycles.


Key Responsibilities

  • Medical Safety & Risk Oversight: Lead medical safety assessments and provide guidance for post-market surveillance, adverse event reporting, and root cause analyses.

  • Complaint Handling & Advisory: Review and comment on risk assessment documents; advise complaint handling teams on medical safety issues and reportability of adverse events.

  • Clinical & Pre-Market Input: Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) teams, providing medical expertise to ensure safety, efficacy, and compliance of protocols.

  • Clinical Trials Monitoring: Serve as Medical Monitor for assigned clinical studies; review and approve clinical trial documentation in accordance with SOPs and GCP guidelines.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Provide medical safety input across Quality & Regulatory Affairs, R&D, and other functions, ensuring integrated risk management.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Generate white papers and reports on post-market product issues; maintain comprehensive safety records.

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Act as a medical safety authority, mentoring junior clinicians, supporting audits, and participating in safety committees.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Medical Degree (MD) with post-graduate training in Radiology; board certification preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of post-training clinical experience in radiology or related imaging technologies.

  • Proven experience in medical safety, risk assessment, and patient safety strategies.

  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and negotiation skills; ability to influence stakeholders across multiple levels.

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, able to convey complex medical information clearly.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Broad understanding of radiology and imaging technologies, product lifecycle, and current market trends.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the medical device industry or regulatory agency environment.

  • Knowledge of Quality Systems and Regulatory Standards (e.g., FDA 21 CFR, ISO 13485, ISO 14971).

  • Experience with post-market surveillance, clinical trial oversight, and adverse event reporting.
