The Bengaluru team operates within a Global Capability Centre (GCC) model, supporting publication, medical affairs, and scientific communications across multiple time zones, ensuring high-quality delivery for global rare disease programs.


Role Overview

The Senior Manager – Publications Delivery will establish and lead the Alexion Publications Delivery team, managing publication writers, editors, graphic designers, and InVision specialists. This role combines people leadership, operational management, and scientific oversight, ensuring end-to-end delivery excellence for medical publications.

The ideal candidate is an experienced publications professional with a proven record in GCCs or service agencies, capable of building teams, implementing SOPs, driving metrics, and maintaining compliance with global publication standards.


Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Build, scale, and lead a high-performing publications delivery team; define roles, career pathways, and performance expectations.

  • Mentor and coach writers, editors, and designers, fostering professional growth.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, manage underperformance, and recognize top talent.

  • Forecast resource demand, plan capacity, and manage recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning.

Operations Management & Delivery Excellence

  • Oversee end-to-end publication delivery: planning, drafting, review cycles, approvals, and finalization.

  • Design and maintain SOPs, RACI matrices, workflows, and operating models across therapeutic areas and publication types.

  • Drive process optimization using Lean, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Define and track KPIs, SLAs, and OKRs: on-time delivery, first-time-right quality, cycle times, rework rates, and stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Implement robust quality assurance processes aligned with GPP, ICMJE, CONSORT/PRISMA, and internal policies.

  • Proactively identify risks, maintain RAID logs, and implement timely mitigation strategies.

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance

  • Build strong relationships with Alexion publication teams, internal stakeholders, and external agencies.

  • Manage publication intake, triage, resourcing, and prioritization for global portfolios.

  • Lead governance meetings, present dashboards, and provide performance updates to leadership.

Vendor & Resource Management

  • Allocate work across internal teams and approved vendors; optimize flexible capacity models.

  • Define vendor scopes, KPIs, and quality gates to ensure compliance, cost-effectiveness, and delivery excellence.

  • Track budgets, productivity, and ROI, supporting invoicing, POs, and resource utilization.

Publication Domain Expertise

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Expert and Senior Publication Writers.

  • Advise on publication strategy, resolve conflicts with author comments, and manage changing stakeholder requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with GPP, ICMJE, CONSORT/PRISMA, Equator Network guidelines, and internal policies.

Tools, Technology & Innovation

  • Champion publication management platforms, content repositories, reference managers, and workflow trackers.

  • Create templates, SOPs, playbooks, and training materials for consistency and scalability.

  • Drive adoption of AI and digital tools to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency.

  • Develop dashboards and reports to provide actionable insights for leadership and stakeholders.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related field; PhD, MD, PharmD, or MSc preferred.

  • 10–15 years in medical publications/medical writing, including 5+ years in people and operations management.

  • Proven experience building teams, implementing SOPs, KPIs, and governance models in GCCs or service agencies.

  • Strong knowledge of GPP, ICMJE, CONSORT/PRISMA, ethical authorship, and journal/congress processes. ISMPP CMPP certification is a plus.

  • Experience managing large-scale publication delivery, quality assurance, and continuous improvement programs.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influence skills in global and multicultural environments.
