Role Overview:
The Senior Director – Healthcare Improvement Lead is responsible for leading strategic healthcare improvement (HCI) initiatives that address clinical care gaps and enhance patient outcomes globally. This role partners closely with Lilly Business Units (BUs), external stakeholders, and the HCI Hub/Implementation Science Center of Excellence to design, implement, scale, and measure impactful, sustainable HCI programs.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Planning & Healthcare Improvement:

  • Partner with BUs to align HCI initiatives with brand and business strategies.

  • Identify root causes of clinical care gaps and implement data-driven, patient-centered solutions.

  • Integrate HCI planning into product lifecycle from early-phase development to commercialization.

  • Ensure scalable design, sustainability, and external dissemination of HCI findings.

2. Operational Leadership & Execution:

  • Lead centralized execution of U.S. and global initiatives across multiple healthcare systems.

  • Maintain compliance with ethical, regulatory, and internal standards while managing budgets effectively.

  • Support HCI technology ecosystem, implementation frameworks, and measurement strategies.

  • Coach and upskill teams across affiliates on HCI methodology and best practices.

3. Organizational & External Influence:

  • Build cross-functional partnerships within Lilly and externally with healthcare systems, medical societies, and other stakeholders.

  • Drive adoption of HCI initiatives to achieve measurable system-level and patient-level outcomes.

  • Shape organizational awareness and strategic adoption of HCIs in alignment with Accelerate Reach & Scale efforts.

  • Engage with professional and academic organizations to influence healthcare improvement practices.

4. Thought Leadership & Reporting:

  • Actively contribute to the HCI Hub, playbooks, and global guidance for methodology, communication, and reporting.

  • Share best practices internally and externally, promoting continuous improvement in healthcare delivery.

  • Prepare for and present in HCI steering committees, executive forums, and external conferences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.

  • 5+ years working with external healthcare stakeholders (e.g., health systems, research institutes, medical societies, NGOs).

  • 5+ years of experience in roles leading or supporting pharmaceutical, healthcare improvement, or implementation science initiatives.

  • U.S. work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, MBA, or equivalent).

  • Experience leading implementation science, improvement science, or health services research initiatives at scale.

  • Proven success in cross-functional leadership, strategic public-private partnerships, and measurable healthcare transformation.

  • Familiarity with implementation science frameworks (e.g., IHI models).

  • Global experience with multi-country healthcare initiatives preferred.

  • Certification in healthcare quality or implementation science (e.g., CPHQ).

  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, project management, and stakeholder influence skills.

  • Ability to travel approximately 20%, including some weekends and international trips.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $154,500 – $226,600 (based on experience, skills, and location).
