Role Overview

Dr. Reddy’s is seeking a Senior Director / Group Lead – Business Development & M&A to drive strategic growth initiatives within the North America Group (NAG). This leadership role will focus on identifying, evaluating, negotiating, and executing business development transactions including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), in-licensing, co-development partnerships, divestitures, and strategic alliances in the generic pharmaceutical sector.

The primary objective of this role is to accelerate revenue growth and profitability in the North American market while identifying opportunities to leverage transactions across global markets where relevant.

This position is based in Princeton, NJ and reports to the Head – Global Portfolio and Business Development (North America).

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and source strategic growth opportunities including acquisitions, licensing deals, partnerships, and alliances within the generic pharmaceutical industry.

  • Develop strong industry networks with pharmaceutical companies, biotech startups, investment bankers, and strategic advisors to stay informed about market trends and transaction opportunities.

  • Conduct preliminary opportunity assessments in collaboration with Portfolio, Marketing, and R&D teams to evaluate commercial viability and strategic fit.

  • Define R&D partnership requirements and prepare detailed Request for Proposals (RFPs).

  • Evaluate partner capabilities, financial models, cost structures, and alliance potential.

  • Build comprehensive business cases incorporating product evaluation, development timelines, patent landscapes, launch strategies, pricing forecasts, cost of goods, and ROI analysis.

  • Lead commercial and financial negotiations, draft term sheets and non-binding offers (NBOs) in coordination with legal teams.

  • Form and manage cross-functional due diligence teams; facilitate technical, financial, regulatory, and operational audits.

  • Prepare diligence reports, revise financial assumptions, and update investment models post-diligence.

  • Lead renegotiation of key commercial terms when required and coordinate agreement finalization with legal and internal stakeholders.

  • Present deal memoranda to Business Unit and Corporate leadership for approval and secure final sign-offs from senior executives.

  • Oversee seamless deal handover to project execution teams and maintain oversight of alliance performance.

Educational Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree in Pharmacy and/or MBA preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science required

Experience Requirements

  • 15+ years of overall professional experience

  • Minimum 5 years within the pharmaceutical industry

  • Minimum 2 years in at least one of the following roles:

    • Business Development Head, Sales Head, or Alliance Head with exposure to in-licensing/out-licensing

    • Corporate Strategy role within API, Biologics, Biosimilars, Formulations, or Licensing

  • At least 5 years’ exposure in one or more of the following:

    • Business Development or Sales leadership managing deal values of USD 1 million or more

    • M&A leadership role in pharma or consulting

    • Mid-to-senior portfolio management role with prior experience in Rx sales or brand/product management

    • Experience in in-licensing, strategic procurement, pharma consulting, or technology platform collaborations
