Job Description: Scientist - Molecular Biology & Pharmacology

At Amgen, we are driven by our mission to serve patients and are looking for innovative professionals ready to take the next step in their careers. Join us as we strive to change the world, impacting over 10 million patients globally.

What You Will Do
We are seeking a motivated individual with expertise in primary cell-based assay development to support our small molecule drug discovery pipeline. In this key role, you will design, develop, and optimize assays to identify and validate potential drug candidates, including primary cell and whole blood assays.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and optimizing primary cell-based assays for high-throughput screening (HTS), hit validation, and lead optimization of novel therapeutic targets.
  • Executing cell-based assays to evaluate the effects of small molecules on cellular pathways, receptor activity, and phenotypic outcomes.
  • Implementing new technologies to enhance screening capabilities and assay performance.
  • Staying updated on scientific literature and industry trends related to assay technologies and drug discovery.
  • Representing the department in multidisciplinary project teams, presenting research results, and providing scientific support.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to drive project progression.

What We Expect of You
We seek a scientist with the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree with relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Immunology, Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field, with relevant postdoctoral experience preferred.
  • Expertise in quantitative pharmacology, cytokine secretion, and phosphorylation assays.
  • Mastery in isolating various primary cells, including different types of T and B cells.
  • Comprehensive understanding of developing, validating, and executing a range of cell-based assays (e.g., cytokine secretion, cell migration).
  • Proven ability to implement cellular assays for target validation, hit identification, and lead optimization (e.g., MesoScale Discovery, HiBIT, NanoBRET, cell reporter assays).
  • Familiarity with Luminex multiplex assays and proficiency in flow cytometry.
  • Strong skills in developing robust automated assays in 384 or 1536-well plates using various detection methods (e.g., spectrophotometry, luminescence, fluorescence).
  • Experience with microplate readers and automated liquid handling systems (e.g., PerkinElmer Envision, Labcyte Echo).
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization software (e.g., Genedata Screener, Tibco Spotfire, GraphPad Prism).
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
