Roche is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the Research & Technology Development (RTD) team in Tucson, Arizona. Position Overview

As a Scientist in RTD, you will design, execute, and interpret complex laboratory studies that inform manufacturing processes, product pipelines, and emerging diagnostic solutions. You will investigate scientific feasibility, solve technical challenges, and translate foundational research into scalable, high-quality outcomes aligned with regulatory and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute laboratory experiments using advanced scientific methodologies and Design of Experiments (DOE) principles.

  • Investigate scientific feasibility and identify technical risks early in the development lifecycle.

  • Analyze and synthesize complex datasets to drive process optimization and product improvements.

  • Contribute to patent applications, scientific publications, and technical documentation.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert within cross-functional project teams.

  • Present research findings to internal stakeholders, leadership teams, and technical forums.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Quality First Time principles.

  • Mentor junior scientists and contribute to laboratory capability development.

Education & Experience Required

  • PhD in a Scientific Discipline: Entry-level candidates accepted with demonstrated research excellence and technical potential.

  • Master’s Degree in Science: Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience in diagnostics, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or related fields.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science: Minimum 8 years of relevant industry experience in research, process development, or applied laboratory science.

Technical Expertise & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of modern scientific principles in diagnostics, pharmaceutical research, or applied life sciences.

  • Proven experience in data analysis, statistical evaluation, and experimental optimization.

  • Advanced technical writing skills for regulatory, patent, and scientific documentation.

  • Ability to work effectively in matrixed, cross-functional research environments.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated scientific creativity and independent thinking.

Working Conditions

  • Standard laboratory environment with adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.

  • Occasional travel (approximately 10–15%) based on project requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range (Tucson, AZ): $82,700 – $153,700 USD annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
