Purpose

Scientific data and information are core assets at Lilly. The Scientific Communications Associate - Publications role is vital for preparing scientific publications—including abstracts, posters, manuscripts, and presentations—by collaborating with cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Content Strategy and Document Management

  • Collect and evaluate data from diverse sources to create cohesive content strategies for writing projects.

  • Plan, write, edit, review, and finalize scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals and forums.

  • Conduct initiation meetings to align authoring teams and ensure clarity of objectives.

  • Develop scientific rationales for complex documents and ensure clear presentation of data.

  • Coordinate expert reviews, integrate feedback, and prepare final versions while maintaining quality checks.

  • Advocate for appropriate authorship criteria on all applicable work products.

  • Manage relationships with vendors and alliance partners as needed.

2. Project and Stakeholder Management

  • Lead the writing process using effective project management skills to ensure timely completion of high-quality publications.

  • Communicate project timelines and anticipate risks to delivery.

  • Collaborate with teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth document development and escalate issues as necessary.

3. Knowledge and Skills Development

  • Enhance therapeutic area knowledge and maintain familiarity with publication guidelines.

  • Adapt to various document types and therapeutic areas as project needs evolve.

  • Stay informed about the external environment, including competitor activity, to contribute to publication planning.

4. Knowledge Sharing

  • Coach others by sharing technical expertise and best practices.

  • Recognize and network with others to improve processes and share knowledge.

  • Provide expertise in document management systems and tools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a scientific field.

  • Experience in writing scientific publications.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Successful completion of a writing exercise as part of the evaluation process.

Additional Preferences

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, MA, MBBS) in a relevant scientific or health-related field.

  • Expertise in health outcomes, health economics, or public health.

  • Mastery of verbal and written English in medical or technical writing.

  • Experience in clinical development, health-outcomes research, or regulatory activities.

  • Demonstrated project management and time management skills.

  • Proficiency in computer skills related to word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
