About the Role

The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area (CVM) of Biomedical Research at Novartis is dedicated to discovering transformative medicines to combat cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, which claim over 17.9 million lives annually.

As a Research Scientist II in Cell Pharmacology, you will contribute to target identification, disease biology research, and drug discovery. Your work will involve cell-based assays, molecular biology techniques, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to advance therapeutic solutions for CVM.


Key Responsibilities

1. Research & Experimental Work

  • Support target identification and validation using cell lines, primary cells, and tissues.
  • Develop and execute cell-based assays for drug discovery, employing techniques such as qPCR and western blotting.
  • Analyze preclinical model tissues to support biology and pharmacology studies.
  • Utilize molecular, biochemical, and biophysical techniques for experimental workflows.

2. Data Analysis & Documentation

  • Conduct data collection, analysis, and interpretation to drive research insights.
  • Maintain accurate lab records following good documentation practices.
  • Present findings in lab and department meetings.
  • Contribute to research publications and scientific documents.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work in a matrixed team environment with scientists from multiple disciplines.
  • Partner with translational medicine colleagues to accelerate drug development.
  • Engage in scientific discussions and brainstorming sessions for innovation.

4. Compliance & Best Practices

  • Follow good laboratory practices to ensure experimental accuracy.
  • Adhere to ethical research standards and safety guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Industry Experience

  • 3+ years of laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting.
  • Proven track record of research accomplishments, with peer-reviewed publications preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience in cell culture techniques.
  • Expertise in developing, executing, and troubleshooting cell-based assays.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR, ELISA, Western Blot).
  • Experience in gene silencing techniques (RNAi or CRISPR) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with RNAseq and ‘omics technologies is advantageous.

  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for scientific innovation and discovery.
