Principal Scientist II – Imaging Expert, Clinical Imaging & Analytics

Job Summary

Novartis is seeking a Principal Scientist II – Imaging Expert to join its Clinical Imaging & Analytics team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In this pivotal role within the Biomarker Development group, you will lead innovative imaging strategies and apply PET/SPECT expertise to drive clinical and translational research across multiple therapeutic areas. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence early drug development using molecular imaging endpoints.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as internal expert in PET and/or SPECT imaging for clinical trials.

  • Lead exploratory imaging analysis to uncover safety, efficacy, and biomarker insights.

  • Develop and implement novel imaging endpoints to support clinical development.

  • Partner with senior imaging experts and collaborate with imaging CROs.

  • Integrate imaging strategies into trial design, patient selection, and mechanistic understanding.

  • Ensure high-quality execution of imaging components in clinical trials.

  • Work cross-functionally with Research, Translational Science, and Clinical Operations teams.

  • Manage external academic and CRO relationships to advance imaging science.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with 3+ years of PET/SPECT imaging experience in academia, pharma, or CRO.

  • Deep understanding of clinical trial imaging, including hands-on data analysis.

  • Demonstrated innovation in imaging modalities and biomarker development.

  • Experience in radioligand/radiopharmaceutical therapy (RLT/RPT) is a plus.

  • Knowledge of regulatory submission processes and first-in-human imaging protocols.

  • Familiarity with dosimetry, receptor occupancy, and clinical trial design.

  • Strong project management and communication skills; ability to work in matrixed teams.

  • Proactive, self-motivated, with a drive for scientific excellence and translational impact.
