Overview
Novartis is hiring a Principal Scientist II or Senior Principal Scientist to join the Modeling & Simulation group within PK Sciences. This dual-level role focuses on developing and applying advanced physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models to support drug discovery, translational research, and global clinical development.
The position is based onsite in Cambridge, MA and supports strategic decision-making across multiple therapeutic areas by enabling reliable DDI assessments, biopharmaceutics evaluations, human PK predictions, and population-specific exposure modeling.
This opportunity is suited for experienced PBPK modelers with a strong background in ADME, pharmacokinetics, and regulatory interactions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead PBPK modeling activities to support global drug development, discovery programs, and translational research.
Perform predictive PBPK analyses for human PK, drug–drug interaction (DDI) potential, disease-related exposure changes, and pediatric or special-population considerations.
Support formulation decisions and biopharmaceutics assessments using mechanistic absorption and disposition modeling.
Integrate ADME, PK/PD, and DDI data into robust translational modeling strategies.
Interpret, document, and communicate modeling insights to cross-functional project teams.
Prepare high-quality summaries for regulatory submissions and independently address health authority queries.
Ensure modeling work aligns with regulatory guidance and global industry standards.
Contribute to clinical development strategies by using model-informed approaches to optimize trial design and enable clinical waivers.
Essential Qualifications
PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacokinetics, Biopharmaceutics, ADME/DMPK, or related scientific discipline.
Principal Scientist II: Minimum 3 years of industry experience in PBPK modeling and simulation.
Senior Principal Scientist: Minimum 6 years of industry experience in PBPK modeling and simulation.
Hands-on proficiency with PBPK platforms such as PK-Sim, Simcyp, or GastroPlus.
Experience with additional modeling tools (Monolix, R, Phoenix, NONMEM) is preferred.
Demonstrated contribution to regulatory documents and familiarity with global health authority expectations.
Broad understanding of drug discovery and development, including PK, ADME, formulation, drug delivery, and DDI mechanisms.
Preferred Skills

Compensation
Principal Scientist II: USD 119,700 – 222,300 annually
Senior Principal Scientist: USD 152,600 – 283,400 annually
Final compensation is based on experience, expertise, and internal alignment. Eligible roles may receive performance-based bonuses and annual equity awards.
