About the Role

The Principal Scientific Writer will create advanced scientific and medical communication content, manage end-to-end publication processes, and mentor writing teams. You will collaborate with global medical, HEVA, RWE, and cross-functional partners to ensure scientific accuracy, compliance, and strategic alignment of all scientific materials.

This position is part of Sanofi Business Operations (BO), a centralized hub supporting Specialty Care, Vaccines, General Medicines, R&D, and Digital functions worldwide. The role involves leading scientific messaging, enhancing communication frameworks, and elevating publication quality across multiple therapeutic areas.

Key Responsibilities

Content Development & Strategy

  • Develop complex scientific publications and medical education materials including manuscripts, posters, abstracts, and slide decks.

  • Manage publication processes and approvals in PromoMats/iEnvision.

  • Maintain deep therapeutic area expertise to guide content accuracy and strategy.

  • Contribute to scientific communication platforms, strategic communication objectives, lexicons, and key messaging frameworks.

  • Provide expert review and leadership in scientific content creation across assigned therapeutic areas.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor and coach senior and junior scientific writers, providing technical and strategic guidance.

  • Build scientific capability within writing teams and support individual development plans.

  • Partner with global stakeholders, healthcare professionals, and cross-functional units to ensure alignment on communication goals.

  • Contribute to digital transformation initiatives and adoption of innovative content development solutions.

Performance & Quality Excellence

  • Deliver high-quality publication and medical education materials within defined timelines and compliance standards.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in publication planning and execution.

  • Drive continuous improvement by recommending and implementing process innovations across the communication ecosystem.

Process Management

  • Conduct publication needs analysis and support annual publication plans.

  • Work with regional vendors to ensure compliance and timely delivery of materials.

  • Utilize advanced training and content delivery tools to enhance engagement and effectiveness.

  • Support budget estimates and resource allocation discussions with team leads and group leads.

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate closely with scientific communication teams to assess publication needs and develop assigned deliverables.

  • Liaise with medical affairs teams to prepare targeted, customized scientific communication content for global and regional audiences.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 9 years of experience in medical writing, medical communication, or publication development in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or academic domain.

  • At least 4 years of leadership experience managing scientific writing teams or publication programs.

  • Demonstrated expertise in therapeutic area content creation, publication strategy, and scientific communication planning.

  • Proven experience managing complex cross-functional projects in a global matrix environment.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of medical communication, publication planning, and regulatory-compliant scientific writing.

  • Experience with publication tools such as PromoMats and iEnvision.

  • Knowledge of therapeutic areas, scientific lexicons, medical education, and publication processes.

  • Project management capability with attention to documentation, compliance, and accuracy.

Education

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, or a related scientific discipline.

Soft Skills

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across global teams.

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
