Sigma Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Pharmacist to join our client's healthcare facility in Wrangell, AK. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe and effective medication therapy for patients.

Shift: Days, Full Time

Job Summary:
As a Pharmacist, you will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficacious, and cost-effective drug therapy. Your duties will include preparing and distributing medications, providing patient counseling, and advising medical and nursing staff on drug therapy. You will also maintain an appropriate drug inventory and participate in quality improvement initiatives, directly impacting patient care.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Review prescriptions for appropriateness, legality, completeness, contraindications, interactions, and allergies.
  • Provide clinical consultation and resolve any concerns with prescribers before dispensing medications.
  • Document clinical activities and interventions accurately.
  • Verify finished prescription orders promptly and accurately, ensuring compliance with record-keeping requirements.
  • Advise patients about their medications, including usage, expected outcomes, and potential side effects.
  • Conduct chart reviews for prescription refills and medication therapy management, making recommendations to providers as necessary.
  • Educate and direct pharmacy support personnel, serving as a role model for pharmacy students and technicians.
  • Participate in clinical and administrative activities, including quality control and improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct health promotion and disease prevention activities related to drug use and preventative therapy.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in reviewing patients' medical histories and medication orders, with a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences.
  • In-depth understanding of state and federal pharmacy laws.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare staff, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong computer application skills.
  • Excellent math skills for accurate drug dosage calculations and compound formulations.
  • Capable of working independently, prioritizing tasks, and making critical decisions under pressure.

Minimum Education:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree and a valid pharmacist license.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and at least 3 years of hospital or ambulatory clinic experience will be considered if licensed prior to 2003.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • An unrestricted registered pharmacist license in any state.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED), obtainable within one year of hire.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency program is preferred.
