Inpatient Pharmacist - Stanford Healthcare

Job Description:

As an Inpatient Pharmacist at Stanford Healthcare, you will provide a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical services, including distributive, clinical, consultative, research, investigational, and administrative functions. Your responsibilities will encompass selecting, compounding, manufacturing, purchasing, dispensing, and preserving drugs and other therapeutic agents. You will be an integral member of treatment or diagnostic teams and will disseminate drug information to hospital staff and community groups. Additionally, you may participate in research projects and pharmaceutical studies.

Contract Details: This position starts as a contract assignment through Actalent Services. Due to recent growth in this department, Stanford Healthcare may consider contract employees for permanent positions based on performance.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of drug solubility, stability, and administration methods to evaluate dosages and prevent chemical reactions.
  • Ensure accurate interpretation of prescriptions and responsible dispensing of medications, alerting physicians to potential interactions or overdoses.
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in the pharmaceutical field and emerging practices.
  • Document patient data, maintain records, and prepare reports regarding patient care.
  • Support accredited teaching programs and provide training as needed.
  • Oversee the proper storage and preservation of therapeutic agents per U.S. Pharmacopoeia (U.S.P.) and National Formulary (N.F.) standards.

Investigational Drug Service:

  • Coordinate pharmacy services related to research at Stanford Healthcare.
  • Participate in site qualification and initiation visits for sponsors.
  • Support pharmacy dispensing practices for IRB-approved clinical trials.
  • Liaise between study teams, protocol sponsors, and nursing staff regarding drug therapy.
  • Attend audits by sponsors and regulatory agencies as required.

Requirements:

  • Active Pharmacist License in the State of California.
  • Minimum of 1 year of inpatient pharmacy experience, preferably with IV mixing and compounding training.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Availability for a schedule of 5x8 (Monday - Friday), with occasional weekend shifts. Candidates must be available for both first (starting at 8 AM) and second (starting at 3 PM) shifts.
