Patient Therapy Access Specialist

Location: Plano, Texas
Work Mode: On-site (5 days/week)
Compensation: $20.05 – $40.15 per hour (may vary by location)
Hours: Preferred 8 AM – 5 PM


Job Summary:

Abbott, a global healthcare leader, is hiring a Patient Therapy Access Specialist (PTA) to join its Plano, TX team. This full-time, on-site position plays a key role in facilitating insurance pre-certifications, pre-determinations, and prior authorizations necessary for Abbott patients to access essential therapies and procedures. Ideal for candidates with a background in medical billing, insurance verification, or healthcare administration, this role supports the delivery of advanced medical device treatments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple patient cases and authorization workflows efficiently

  • Verify insurance benefits and submit authorization requests

  • Perform timely follow-ups to secure approvals

  • Audit clinical documentation for completeness and accuracy

  • Collaborate with physicians, insurance carriers, and facilities for pre-certification

  • Navigate payer portals (e.g., Aetna, BCBS, UHC) for authorizations

  • Assist in appeals and provide administrative support for billing processes

  • Adhere strictly to HIPAA and data privacy regulations


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree (e.g., Nursing, LPN/LVN, or related healthcare field)

  • Knowledge of Medicare, private insurance, and Workers’ Compensation utilization review

  • Familiarity with CPT coding, ICD-10CM, and medical terminology

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

  • Prior experience presenting or public speaking

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

  • Ability to travel up to 5%


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with DME or medical device billing

  • Hands-on knowledge of medical billing software

  • Advanced understanding of insurance payer portals and pre-cert requirements

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot payer issues and escalate appropriately
