Outpatient Pharmacist Opportunity

Location: Wrangell, Alaska
Position: Travel Pharmacist
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM (1-hour lunch break from 1 PM - 2 PM)
Pay: $3,437/week

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1+ years of pharmacy experience required.
  • Current Alaska Pharmacist License.
  • Must have Flu Vaccination.

Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Outpatient Pharmacist to join our pharmacy department in beautiful Wrangell, Alaska. This role is essential for ensuring safe and effective drug therapy for our patients while adhering to all federal and state regulations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and distributing medications according to legal guidelines.
  • Providing patient counseling and education on drug therapy.
  • Advising medical, nursing, and village staff on medication management.
  • Maintaining appropriate drug inventory and participating in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Utilizing independent professional judgment for prescription filling and patient consultations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review prescriptions for appropriateness, legality, contraindications, and interactions.
  • Document all clinical activities and interventions accurately.
  • Verify finished prescription orders promptly and accurately.
  • Advise patients about their medications and ensure they understand their treatment plans.
  • Conduct chart reviews and medication therapy management.
  • Provide drug information and consult with healthcare staff on drug therapy.
  • Direct pharmacy support personnel and serve as a role model for pharmacy technicians and students.
  • Participate in clinical and administrative activities, including quality control and improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Pharm.D. degree and licensure as a registered pharmacist.
  • Candidates licensed prior to 2003 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree will be considered with at least 3 years of experience in hospital and/or ambulatory clinic pharmacy.
  • Unrestricted license as a registered pharmacist in any state.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED) preferred (may be obtained within one year of hire).
  • Completion of a nationally recognized pharmacy residency program is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in reviewing medical histories, lab results, and medication orders.
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences and state/federal pharmacy laws.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Strong computer skills and mathematical proficiency for dosage calculations.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and respond to urgent requests.
