Position Summary:
The Infection Prevention & Control Specialist (IPCS) supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital-wide infection control program. This includes surveillance, prevention, policy development, education, compliance monitoring, and outbreak response, aligning with regulatory standards from the CDC, Cal OSHA, The Joint Commission, and public health departments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver infection prevention education to new hires, departments, medical staff, and during orientation/annual reviews.

  • Develop and revise infection control policies, SOPs, and goals in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

  • Monitor patient care environments for infection control risks and perform regular surveillance for HAIs.

  • Participate in outbreak investigations, coordinate with public health authorities, and ensure accurate reporting.

  • Support and assess infection risk in construction and renovation projects.

  • Serve on the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and other relevant hospital boards.

  • Use EMR and surveillance systems to analyze trends, assess compliance, and identify risk.

  • Participate in research initiatives and submit abstracts to national conferences.

  • Rotate on-call duty for infection control support, including weekends and holidays.

  • Support quality and performance improvement initiatives using data analytics and digital tools.

  • Contribute to and uphold institutional compliance with infection control and safety regulations.


Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in infection prevention, quality improvement, or related healthcare safety field.

  • Certification: Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (must be obtained within 720 days of employment).

  • Confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive data

  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills

  • Familiarity with EMR systems and infection surveillance platforms

  • Ability to work onsite within 1-hour travel time during on-call assignments


Compensation Details:

  • Hourly Pay Range: $60.34 – $80.04

  • Placement within the range will be based on experience, education, internal equity, and market standards.
