Position Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) for NMOSD (Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder) and gMG (generalized Myasthenia Gravis) serves as a scientific and medical expert in the field, establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), clinicians, and institutions across New York City and New Jersey.

This role supports Amgen’s Rare Disease therapeutic area, bridging cutting-edge science and clinical practice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a scientific liaison between Amgen and the external medical/scientific community.

  • Build and maintain relationships with medical thought leaders, academic institutions, and large healthcare organizations in alignment with compliance and regulatory guidelines.

  • Communicate scientific, clinical, and health-economic information clearly to key internal and external audiences.

  • Collect and integrate clinical insights and customer feedback to inform internal strategy.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Commercial teams to align goals and share medical insights.

  • Identify and train potential external speakers for Amgen-sponsored programs.

  • Attend national and regional medical conferences to stay current on emerging data, therapeutic trends, and competitor activities.

  • Evaluate investigator-initiated trials (IITs) and company-sponsored clinical studies in coordination with internal medical and clinical teams.

  • Monitor the competitive environment, including new treatment modalities and therapeutic advancements.

  • Support regulatory compliance, ensuring all interactions align with ethical, legal, and industry standards.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree
    OR

  • Master’s degree and 3 years of Medical Affairs experience
    OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Medical Affairs experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree: Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D., or D.O. (other doctoral degrees considered)

  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Affairs or scientific experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven networking capability

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional, proactive demeanor

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to adopt new digital tools (e.g., iPad, CRM systems)

  • Ability to travel up to 60%, including regional and national conferences

  • Willingness to work extended hours (up to 15-hour days) when necessary
