Medical Advisor
Location: Midrand, South Africa
Division: International | Business Unit: Innovative Medicines

Novartis seeks a Medical Advisor to support the design, implementation, and execution of Medical Affairs plans for assigned therapeutic areas. This role emphasizes providing scientific expertise, building relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and regulatory stakeholders, and aligning strategies with global objectives and local market conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Medical Affairs Strategy:
    Support and implement country-specific medical plans aligned with global strategies and local market dynamics.
  • Scientific Events:
    Coordinate symposia, congresses, CME activities, and scientific meetings to add value to therapeutic areas.
    Execute customer-facing medical events efficiently and compliantly.
  • Medical Information:
    Respond to medical inquiries promptly and develop standard response documents for common questions.
  • Clinical Research:
    Contribute to clinical trial development, oversight of studies, and support non-interventional and investigator-initiated trials.
  • Material Review:
    Ensure local promotional and medical materials comply with regulatory and internal guidelines.
  • Collaboration:
    Provide medical insights to cross-functional teams, including pharmacovigilance, regulatory, market access, quality assurance, and commercial teams.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    Identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and ensure adherence to ethical standards and internal controls.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Adherence to Ethics & Compliance policies.
  • Achievement of annual targets for medical activities.
  • Contribution to scientific operations and execution of objectives.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:
    • MBBCh or PhD in a relevant scientific/medical field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL), Medical Manager, or Medical Advisor.
  • Skills:
    • Strong medical knowledge in oncology or relevant therapeutic areas.
    • Clinical experience, especially in oncology, is an advantage.
    • Excellent communication, analytical, and regulatory knowledge.
    • Proficiency in collaboration, project management, and continuous learning.
  • Languages:
    • English proficiency required.
