Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and board-certified Medical Director – Rheumatologist to provide medical leadership and scientific expertise for global clinical research trials focused on rheumatologic disorders. The selected candidate will primarily serve as a Medical Monitor while supporting medical strategy, protocol development, investigator engagement, and scientific oversight for clinical studies.

This role is ideal for Rheumatologists with strong expertise in clinical trials, medical monitoring, pharmacovigilance, and therapeutic area leadership within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO environments.


Key Responsibilities

Medical Monitoring & Clinical Oversight

  • Serve as the primary Medical Monitor for assigned global or regional clinical trials.
  • Provide medical guidance and support for:
    • Patient eligibility review
    • Protocol compliance
    • Adverse event (AE) management
    • Patient safety oversight
    • Clinical data interpretation
  • Review and clarify:
    • Adverse events
    • Safety concerns
    • Protocol deviations
    • Clinical trial medical queries
  • Ensure patient safety and scientific integrity throughout the clinical trial lifecycle.

Scientific & Medical Advisory Support

  • Act as a Scientific Advisor for:
    • Project Leaders
    • Clinical teams
    • Internal stakeholders
  • Provide medical and scientific input on:
    • Clinical protocols
    • Study feasibility
    • Regulatory considerations
    • Therapeutic strategies
  • Support development of medically sound and scientifically accurate clinical trial programs.

Investigator & Clinical Team Engagement

  • Provide therapeutic area and indication training for project clinical teams.
  • Attend and present at:
    • Investigator meetings
    • Client meetings
    • Kick-off meetings
    • Weekly clinical review discussions
  • Support investigative sites with urgent protocol-related issues and medical clarifications.

Medical Strategy & Proposal Development

  • Contribute to:
    • Clinical proposal development
    • Medical monitoring strategy
    • Budget planning related to medical oversight
  • Review protocols for:
    • Scientific validity
    • Clinical feasibility
    • Regulatory compliance
  • Participate in:
    • Bid defense meetings
    • Strategic discussions
    • Client presentations

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with:
    • Clinical Operations
    • Pharmacovigilance
    • Regulatory Affairs
    • Biostatistics
    • Project Management teams
  • Maintain effective communication with:
    • Sponsors

Travel Requirements

  • Availability for approximately 5% regional and international travel as required for business and clinical trial support activities.

Required Qualifications

Educational Qualifications

Mandatory Qualification:

  • Medical Degree from an accredited and internationally recognized medical school:
    • MD
    • MBBS equivalent
    • Doctor of Medicine

Mandatory Certification

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Rheumatology
