Medical Director – GI2 Clinical Research | Takeda Pharmaceuticals | Bengaluru, India

Job Summary:

Takeda Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced Medical Director – GI2 Clinical Science to lead local strategy and clinical development operations in India. Based in Bengaluru, this on-site, full-time role plays a critical leadership position within the China & APAC R&D division. The successful candidate will shape the drug development pathway from strategic planning to registration for gastrointestinal pipeline products (GI2), collaborate with global stakeholders, and directly impact the company’s clinical development vision in India and potentially across Asia.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute local clinical strategy and development plans for GI2 pipeline assets

  • Drive clinical protocol design, approval, study conduct, and data interpretation

  • Act as the local clinical lead for CTA and NDA processes, including Health Authority interactions

  • Collaborate with cross-functional China & APAC Development Teams and business operations

  • Monitor ongoing studies and interpret trial data to support strategic decisions

  • Oversee trial medical monitoring and booster enrollment activities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local KOLs, investigators, and regulatory bodies

  • Represent Takeda in external partnerships, alliances, and academic collaborations

  • Participate in due diligence evaluations and licensing opportunity assessments

  • Mentor and coach junior medical staff, supporting clinical team capability development

  • Represent clinical science in regional task forces to improve operational efficiency


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • MD or internationally recognized equivalent degree

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in clinical practice and/or pharmaceutical research

  • Proven leadership in GI2 therapy drug development

  • Prior experience managing NDA/MAA submissions is highly preferred

  • Familiarity with India’s regulatory environment and clinical operations

  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and cross-cultural communication skills

  • Previous success leading matrix teams or cross-functional development teams in India

  • Fluent in English and Indian languages

  • Demonstrated alignment with Takeda Leadership Behaviors and values
