Role Overview

The Medical Coder is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of coding patient charts and diagnosis reports. This role ensures accurate and timely coding to support healthcare operations and client requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Chart Coding and Auditing:

    • Code or audit patient charts and diagnosis reports based on project requirements and industry standards.
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness in all coding activities.
  • Production and Report Management:

    • Update and clear production and pending reports to ensure timely processing.
    • Prepare and maintain detailed coding and audit reports.
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Work closely with the team leader to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
    • Actively participate in team meetings and discussions.
  • Communication and Updates:

    • Review and respond to emails promptly to stay updated on any coding changes or client instructions.
    • Apply instructions and updates received from clients during production.
  • Issue Escalation:

    • Identify and escalate any issues or discrepancies to the immediate supervisor for resolution.
    • Ensure all escalations are documented and followed up appropriately.
  • Policy Adherence:

    • Strictly adhere to company policies and procedures to maintain compliance and quality standards.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educational Background:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science (B.Sc./ M.Sc.) or Pharmacy (B.Pharm/ M.Pharm) or Life Sciences.
  • Experience:

    • 2-4 years of experience in medical coding.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of medical coding concepts, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
    • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
  • Analytical Skills:

    • Excellent analytical skills to ensure accuracy and completeness in coding.
    • Ability to interpret clinical information and translate it into appropriate codes.
  • Productivity and Time Management:

    • Ability to meet productivity targets set by clients within stipulated timeframes (daily and monthly).
    • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Communication Skills:

    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to understand and apply client requirements and specifications accurately.
  • Attention to Detail:

    • High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in coding and auditing activities.
