🌟 About the Role

As a Lead Calibration Technician, you'll be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the Calibration Department, ensuring all equipment meets regulatory standards. You’ll lead calibration staff, manage procedures, maintain calibration records, troubleshoot failures, and support compliance in a highly regulated FDA manufacturing environment.

This position ensures all measurement and test equipment used in manufacturing and laboratory environments are precise, accurate, and properly maintained—directly supporting patient safety and product quality.


📋 Key Responsibilities

🔧 Calibration & Technical Duties

  • Perform maintenance, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic, mechanical, and analytical laboratory/manufacturing equipment.

  • Conduct inspections, evaluations, and documentation per industry standards and internal procedures.

  • Apply complex formulas and calculations in calibrations.

  • Maintain traceability of all standards to national/international references.

  • Set up and operate standard/special-purpose equipment to test, evaluate, and calibrate instruments.

📊 Leadership & Oversight

  • Supervise and coordinate daily tasks for calibration staff.

  • Assign, track, and review task completion for compliance with SOPs.

  • Provide training to new technicians and assign ongoing training for team.

  • Own calibration procedures and processes.

  • Lead calibration-related projects (e.g., new systems, digitization, optimization).

🔍 Compliance & Reporting

  • Develop defensible calibration methods and procedures.

  • Investigate equipment/process failures, determine root cause, assess product/process impact, and implement corrective actions.

  • Analyze calibration data and perform trending to ensure systems remain in control.

  • Prepare detailed technical reports and maintain equipment files.

👨‍🏫 Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a technical resource on metrology issues for cross-functional teams.

  • Ensure open communication with leadership regarding risks, findings, and improvements.


🧠 Qualifications & Skills

📚 Education & Experience

  • High School diploma/GED with:

    • 6+ years of calibration experience and

    • 2+ years of leadership experience

    • OR Associate’s Degree in a technical field with 4+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience in an FDA-regulated environment strongly preferred

🧰 Technical Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of metrology systems, calibration technology, and routines

  • Expertise in the capabilities and limitations of lab/manufacturing instrumentation

  • Strong understanding of static-sensitive component handling and safe electrical work practices

  • Familiarity with:

    • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

    • Medical Device Regulations

    • Infusion pumps and their configurations

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Soft Skills

  • Proven leadership and team coordination skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment


🏋️ Physical Demands

  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally

  • Sit and stand throughout the day

  • Dynamic lifting:

    • Lift and carry 15 lbs from floor to shoulder

    • Lift 2 lbs from shoulder to overhead

    • Push/pull up to 6 lbs of force


🧪 Work Environment

  • Manufacturing environment regulated by the FDA

  • Controlled temperature and humidity

  • Required to wear:

    • Static-protective smock

    • Ground wrist strap

    • Other PPE as applicable

  • Non-routine exposure to:

    • Degreasers

    • Oils

    • Electronic equipment cleaners

  • Regular interaction in close proximity to other employees


💵 Compensation

  • Estimated Annual Salary Range: $60,000 – $82,500

  • Final salary based on skills, location, experience, and market conditions

  • Eligible for additional discretionary bonuses
