The Intake Coordinator is responsible for managing referral intake processes, verifying insurance and clinical information, and coordinating communication between referral sources and internal healthcare teams.
This role plays a critical function in ensuring timely and accurate processing of home health referrals while maintaining compliance with payer guidelines and regulatory standards.
Receive and analyze incoming referral and physician order calls.
Collect demographic and clinical information from patients, physician offices, hospitals, and other referral sources.
Compile and process referrals in accordance with established home health procedures.
Verify referring physician licenses for all incoming referrals.
Research and validate insurance coverage and payer sources.
Confirm commercial insurance policies and HIQA requirements as applicable.
Educate patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff regarding available home health services.
Serve as a liaison between clinical teams and marketing staff to ensure seamless referral coordination.
Maintain accurate documentation and timely communication with internal departments.
Minimum 1+ year of experience in office procedures or administrative support roles.
Minimum 1+ year of experience in healthcare, medical office operations, or insurance verification.
Strong understanding of insurance processes and healthcare documentation workflows.
Experience in home health or post-acute care environments.
Knowledge of medical terminology and payer guidelines.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare setting.
Hourly Pay Range: $14.00 – $27.69 per hour (based on experience, education, certifications, and local labor market conditions).
