Position Overview

The Intake Coordinator is responsible for managing referral intake processes, verifying insurance and clinical information, and coordinating communication between referral sources and internal healthcare teams.

This role plays a critical function in ensuring timely and accurate processing of home health referrals while maintaining compliance with payer guidelines and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities

Referral Intake & Documentation

  • Receive and analyze incoming referral and physician order calls.

  • Collect demographic and clinical information from patients, physician offices, hospitals, and other referral sources.

  • Compile and process referrals in accordance with established home health procedures.

Insurance & Compliance Verification

  • Verify referring physician licenses for all incoming referrals.

  • Research and validate insurance coverage and payer sources.

  • Confirm commercial insurance policies and HIQA requirements as applicable.

Communication & Coordination

  • Educate patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff regarding available home health services.

  • Serve as a liaison between clinical teams and marketing staff to ensure seamless referral coordination.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and timely communication with internal departments.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1+ year of experience in office procedures or administrative support roles.

  • Minimum 1+ year of experience in healthcare, medical office operations, or insurance verification.

  • Strong understanding of insurance processes and healthcare documentation workflows.


Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Experience in home health or post-acute care environments.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and payer guidelines.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare setting.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Pay Range: $14.00 – $27.69 per hour (based on experience, education, certifications, and local labor market conditions).
