Position Summary

The Infection Preventionist (IP) will lead and support hospital-wide infection control efforts, applying epidemiology principles to reduce hospital-acquired infections. The role includes surveillance, analysis, reporting, education, and policy compliance. This position operates under the guidance of the Director of Quality Management and aligns with standards from The Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, ODH, CDC, and other regulatory bodies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform surveillance, analysis, and reporting of hospital-acquired infections.

  • Educate healthcare staff on infection prevention best practices.

  • Evaluate patient care procedures to ensure alignment with infection control policies.

  • Monitor compliance with internal policies and national regulatory standards.

  • Utilize knowledge in microbiology, infection control guidelines, and performance improvement.

  • Maintain documentation and data using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Collaborate with Quality Management for performance monitoring and improvement initiatives.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Registered Nurse (RN) with BSN preferred or Medical Technologist (MT) certified by ASCP.

    • Current Ohio license or certification required.

    • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years in a hospital setting.

    • At least 3 years in infection control or significant related experience in:

      • Hand hygiene, PPE, respiratory hygiene, aseptic techniques, surveillance, and waste disposal.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    • Preferred knowledge in: TJC, CMS, OSHA, HICPAC, NHSN standards.
