Position Overview

Title: Graduate Intern – Business Operations in R&D Strategy & Operations (RDSO)
Duration: Approximately 12 weeks
Type: Project-based and experiential internship

As a Graduate Intern in Amgen’s R&D Strategy and Operations (RDSO) organization, you will play a key role in driving innovation beyond the molecule by applying digital and strategic solutions to streamline operations and enhance business excellence.

You will collaborate closely across Research & Development, Chief Medical Office, Chief Technology Office, Quality & Compliance, and other Amgen functions.


About R&D Strategy & Operations (RDSO)

RDSO is organized into four core functional areas:

  1. Portfolio, Strategy & Execution – Drives insights-based portfolio decisions and strategic innovation in drug development.

  2. R&D Business Operations (BusOps) – Oversees budget, contracting, supplier management, laboratory operations, biospecimen and research compliance, and ESG initiatives.

  3. R&D Training & Development – Focuses on digital learning transformation and building an inclusive, people-centric workforce.

  4. Strategy & Performance Excellence (SPx) – Leads R&D strategy, functional transformation, and performance excellence initiatives.


Your Role in R&D Business Operations (BusOps)

You will contribute to one or more of the following six verticals that support R&D operational efficiency:

  • Budget Planning & Management: Aligns financial and resource planning across R&D functions.

  • Supplier Management: Manages third-party risk and leverages external partnerships.

  • Global Business Transactions Center: Handles contracting and financial transaction processes.

  • Business Analytics: Transforms data into actionable insights that drive measurable value and results.

  • Global Lab Operations: Enables operational excellence across laboratory environments.

  • Business Resilience: Oversees business continuity and ESG-related resilience programs.

Note: Specific projects and responsibilities will depend on the intern’s assigned vertical and team needs.


What We Expect From You

Basic Qualifications

  • 18 years or older.

  • Bachelor’s degree completed from an accredited college or university.

  • Currently enrolled in one of the following programs:

    • MBA program (for MBA internship)

    • Master’s program (for Master’s internship)

    • PharmD program (for PharmD internship)

    • Ph.D. program (for PhD internship)

  • Completed at least one year of graduate studies before internship start.

  • Enrolled in an accredited program following internship completion.

  • Must not be employed at the start of internship.

  • Must reside in the U.S. during the internship.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship for the internship).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Management Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering, Communications, Psychology, Human Resources, or a related field.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organization and time management abilities.

  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and adaptable to changing priorities.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and dynamic work environments.

  • Basic knowledge of project management concepts preferred.
