Summary
The Expert Science & Technology role focuses on planning and performing scientific experiments or pilot plant processes for the preparation and timely delivery of drug substances (DS), drug products (DP), processes, and procedures. The role involves collaboration with a multifunctional project team coordinated by a Project Leader and contributing to laboratory infrastructure and instrument maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Experimental Design & Execution
Plan, organize, and perform scientific experiments with minimal guidance from experienced team members.
Document raw data, evaluate results, and contribute to interpretation and reporting.
Propose and design subsequent experiments; optimize existing methods or develop new methods.
Reproduce published methods and develop more efficient procedures.
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
Generate lab procedures, reports, instructions, and/or SOPs.
Transfer procedures to pilot plant or production, including troubleshooting and process controls.
Maintain records of chemicals, intermediates, excipients, and solvents in assigned area.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Collaborate with team members to ensure timely delivery of DS and DP.
Act as mentor for new joinees and support project team goals.
Actively participate in project teams, meetings, and networks.
Laboratory & Equipment Management
Utilize specialized tools, equipment, and facilities (e.g., containment or sterile labs).
Evaluate new laboratory equipment.
Perform routine maintenance and calibration of lab instruments; contribute to infrastructure upkeep.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure all activities align with SOPs, GMP, GLP, QM, HSE, ISEC, and Novartis guidelines.
Follow safety protocols for handling chemicals, hazardous materials, and laboratory equipment.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education:
PhD in a relevant technical subject with relevant experience, or
Master of Science with 4+ years of relevant experience.
Skills & Knowledge:
Fluency in English.
Expertise in trace-level quantification of GTI/Nitrosamines/Nitrites using LC-UV/FID, Ion Chromatography, LCMS.
Experience handling OOS/OOE results and deviations involving the above analytical techniques.
Proficient with laboratory and technical tools; good knowledge of software/computer tools.
Strong documentation skills.
Broad theoretical and scientific knowledge in relevant areas (e.g., manufacturing, analytical, pharmaceutical).
Awareness of safe chemical handling and laboratory safety practices.
