Position Overview:
The Evidence Generation Scientist will provide strategic leadership in Real World Evidence (RWE) and health outcomes (HO) research, supporting drug development and commercial strategies. This position requires in-depth knowledge of RWE and health outcomes disciplines, cardiometabolic health, drug development, and market access. The Scientist will take ownership of research projects, developing and executing RWE/HO strategies to support evidence generation, regulatory approvals, pricing, and reimbursement.

As a critical part of the Value, Evidence, and Outcomes (VEO) International medical affairs team, the Scientist will contribute to Lilly's mission of accelerating equitable patient access and transforming healthcare delivery through high-impact research.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy Development:

  • Lead and drive the integration of RWE/HO strategies across the drug development lifecycle from early clinical development to commercialization.
  • Develop and oversee RWE research strategies for compounds within Lilly’s portfolio, particularly within cardiometabolic health.
  • Serve as a strategic partner within lead/core teams throughout development and commercialization stages.
  • Formulate and execute RWE/HO strategies for priority products and geographic regions.

Study Development and Execution:

  • Develop impactful scientific research that supports Lilly’s products and improves patient outcomes.
  • Utilize technical expertise to design and execute RWE/HO studies, including observational and epidemiologic research, to inform registration, pricing, reimbursement, and healthcare practitioner decision-making.
  • Support local submission and execution of approved Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs).

Organizational Leadership and Influence:

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key internal stakeholders and external decision-makers.
  • Lead RWE/HO evidence planning and execution in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Influence business partners and external stakeholders to achieve strategic goals.

Information Dissemination:

  • Communicate RWE/HO findings effectively to internal teams, the scientific community, and external stakeholders.
  • Drive research dissemination efforts through abstracts, posters, presentations, manuscripts, and other scientific communication channels.
  • Ensure alignment and application of research results to maximize the impact of RWE/HO work.

Environmental Awareness:

  • Stay informed on significant developments in disease states, RWE methodologies, and applications relevant to Lilly's portfolio.
  • Anticipate and evaluate future market needs for RWE information within targeted therapeutic areas and geographies.
  • Monitor and influence internal and external factors affecting the generation and application of RWE research.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the execution of RWE projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, and scope.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Lilly teams and external collaborators to ensure seamless project delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's, Master’s, or Doctorate (PhD, MD) or PharmD/MS degree with significant experience in creating and executing outcomes strategies and projects.
  • Proven track record of leading impactful RWE studies from concept to dissemination.
  • Expertise in designing and applying innovative methods for RWE studies, including statistical analysis, clinical trials, epidemiological research, and value assessment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific data into clear, concise information.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate within cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of healthcare systems, particularly in Europe and/or Asia.
  • Familiarity with healthcare delivery models and clinical research practices.
  • Technical and analytical expertise in RWE, patient-focused outcomes, burden of disease, epidemiology, statistics, and healthcare policy.
  • Proven ability to drive research agendas to completion and to lead the dissemination of results.
  • Creative and innovative thinking in the generation of RWE.
  • Experience with Investigator Initiated Studies (IITs).
