Position Overview

Abbott Heart Failure (HF) develops advanced technologies supporting patients with heart failure through hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical circulatory support devices. The Director, Medical Affairs will join a specialized medical team responsible for ensuring safe, effective, and compliant device use across clinical and commercial functions.

This leadership role directly supports the Chief Medical Officer and provides strategic medical oversight across product development, clinical research, product quality, compliance, and customer engagement.


Key Responsibilities

Medical Strategy & Governance

  • Develop medical assessments, medical platform documents, and Health Hazard Assessments.

  • Provide medical input for commercial, promotional, and marketing activities.

  • Serve as a medical representative on Risk Evaluation teams.

  • Provide medical support for MDR reporting and quality/regulatory communications.

Clinical & Product Support

  • Contribute medical expertise to new product development initiatives.

  • Support investigation teams with medical insights during issue analysis.

  • Update medical affairs procedural documents and submit change requests as required.

  • Participate in customer interactions, delivering medical guidance and support.

Research & Education

  • Lead regional Investigator Initiated Study (IIS) and Research Grant programs.

  • Provide content and medical review for professional education initiatives.

  • Document off-label discussions in accordance with regulatory requirements.

  • Support KOL engagement and collaboration with professional societies.

Collaboration & Representation

  • Assist the Chief Medical Officer in representing Abbott Heart Failure to regulatory agencies and professional organizations.

  • Deliver medical interpretations and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • MD strongly preferred; PhD in a relevant scientific discipline may be considered.

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, ideally in cardiovascular medicine.

  • Experience in clinical research, study interpretation, and scientific presentation.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills are essential.

  • Ability to travel up to 70 percent; remote role based in the United States.


Compensation

Base Salary Range: USD 168,000 – 336,000
Pay may vary depending on geographic location.
