Overview:

The Director – Medical Communications will provide strategic scientific leadership and ensure the development of accurate, high-quality, and compliant scientific content across multiple communication channels. The role requires cross-functional collaboration with internal teams (US, Europe, India) and external clients, acting as the key medical expert to guide strategy and execution.

While the initial focus will be on an upcoming ADHD launch, the role will extend to other therapeutic areas (TAs). This position reports to the VP Medical Affairs and Head of Medical Strategy.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Scientific Leadership & Strategy

  • Collaborate with client teams and offshore colleagues to align on content strategy, scientific narrative, and messaging.

  • Serve as the primary medical/scientific expert for global medical strategy of assigned products/TAs.

  • Lead and coordinate medical communication deliverables during congresses, product launches, and data releases.

  • Provide therapeutic area leadership in neurology, oncology, respiratory, cardiovascular, rare diseases, and other TAs.

2. Content Development & Review

  • Research, develop, and review materials to ensure scientific accuracy, fair balance, audience suitability, and compliance.

  • Review or develop medical and scientific documents, including publications, slide decks, abstracts, newsletters, posters, videos, infographics, medical letters, etc.

  • Participate in meetings for development, review, and maintenance of Medical Affairs deliverables.

  • Utilize review platforms like Veeva to track and analyze medical communication documents.

  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Regulatory teams to ensure ethical interactions with external stakeholders.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with internal teams (medical writers, project managers, creative teams) based in India.

  • Serve as liaison with client stakeholders, including Medical Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, and Commercial teams.

  • Provide medical insights to inform advisory boards, KOL engagement, and pre-launch/launch initiatives.

4. Training & Knowledge Sharing

  • Mentor and provide guidance to internal and cross-functional teams on therapy area knowledge, processes, and platforms.

  • Provide feedback to offshore writing teams to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.

  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and platforms in medical communications.


Education & Experience:

  • Medical degree or advanced Life Science degree with experience in the life sciences industry or medical communications agency.

  • Minimum 10+ years in Medical Affairs/Medical Communications in pharma.

  • 3+ years experience in ADHD or related CNS disorders.

  • Proven experience in publications planning and execution (GPP & ICMJE guidelines).

  • Familiarity with medical strategy development, KOL engagement, and congress activities.

  • Experience in product launch strategies across major markets.

  • CMPP or other relevant medical writing/medical communications certifications is an advantage.
