Executive Overview

Amgen is seeking a strategic and experienced Director, Data Delivery and Insights to lead end-to-end data management oversight within a designated therapeutic area (TA). This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring high-quality database build, maintenance, and lock processes while delivering reliable, analysis-ready datasets aligned with interim and final clinical milestones.

The Director serves as the senior data management authority for the therapeutic area, partnering cross-functionally with Global Development Operations (GDO) and non-GDO stakeholders to align enterprise strategy with therapeutic priorities. This position drives operational excellence, portfolio-level oversight, and consistent implementation of Amgen’s global data management standards.

Key Responsibilities

Therapeutic Area Strategy & Oversight

  • Define and implement the therapeutic area data delivery strategy and standardized ways of working.

  • Review and approve program-level data management plans, integrated data review methodologies, and database lock strategies.

  • Lead therapeutic area delivery forums to compare study performance, identify risks, and drive harmonized practices.

  • Track and manage critical metrics including database readiness, LPLV-to-lock cycle time, unlock rates, and query aging.

  • Drive corrective and preventive actions to mitigate portfolio-level risks.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor Program Data Delivery Leads, Study Data Delivery Leads, and Central Monitors.

  • Allocate resources strategically across studies based on risk, complexity, and milestone priorities.

  • Provide structured coaching, performance feedback, and succession planning for key roles.

  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Governance & Escalation

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for cross-study operational and compliance challenges.

  • Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Biostatistics, Safety, Systems, and enterprise stakeholders.

  • Harmonize KRI/QTL utilization and IDRP conventions across the therapeutic area.

  • Chair lock readiness reviews and ensure alignment for interim and final analyses.

  • Represent the therapeutic area in governance boards and portfolio review forums.

Portfolio & Financial Management

  • Develop annual therapeutic area objectives aligned with global strategy.

  • Oversee resource planning and budget management at portfolio level.

  • Monitor time, cost, and quality performance metrics across programs.

  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with CROs, central labs, imaging vendors, and other external providers.


Basic Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following educational and experience requirements:

  • Doctorate degree with 15+ years of experience in life sciences, computer science, or business administration
    OR

  • Master’s degree with 18+ years of relevant experience
    OR

  • Bachelor’s degree with 18+ years of relevant experience

Additionally:

  • Minimum 4 years of direct people management experience or demonstrated leadership experience leading teams, programs, or enterprise initiatives.


Preferred Experience

  • 12+ years of experience in the life sciences industry, including:

    • 10+ years of biopharmaceutical clinical research experience within biotech or pharmaceutical organizations.

  • Experience managing global, cross-geography teams.

  • Experience overseeing external clinical research vendors including CROs, central laboratories, and imaging providers.

  • Strong background in clinical trial data management and regulatory governance frameworks.


Must-Have Leadership Competencies

  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional, cross-geography, and cross-trial teams.

  • Proven ability to manage portfolio-level budgets and optimize resource allocation.
