Job Title: Data Modeling Manager Associate

The R&D Data Office is a central part of this effort, focusing on driving data strategy, governance, and management across R&D initiatives. The team ensures that data are FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) and supports the integration of advanced data standards. The Data Modeling Manager Associate will play a key role in enabling data capture and analysis through the development of conceptual and logical data models.
The primary responsibility of this role is to develop and maintain conceptual and logical data models for R&D initiatives and programs. This role is critical in supporting structured data capture, ensuring data models are sustainable even beyond project completion, and helping govern data modeling standards. The associate will help ensure data management capabilities are aligned with organizational strategic goals and assist in R&D projects related to technology platforms and systems.
Data Model Design:
Design conceptual and logical data models and ontologies to meet R&D business needs and requirements. Lead validation of physical data models.
Governance Compliance:
Understand and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures for R&D data management.
Data Harmonization and Metadata Management:
Maintain standards for data harmonization, naming conventions, metadata management, and source-to-target data mapping.
Project Influence:
Serve as a “voice-of-business” to influence data-related projects, ensuring alignment with future state goals and close the gap from current to future states.
Consulting and Education:
Serve as a data consultant for R&D initiatives and provide guidance on data definitions, standards, and flows. Educate R&D teams on best practices and methodologies.
Documentation and Standardization:
Maintain and ensure documentation for data definitions, data structures, and legacy data models for R&D functions. Establish and promote data modeling best practices.
Data Governance and Interoperability:
Develop and implement data governance frameworks and policies. Ensure interoperability across systems and data sources.
Requirements Gathering:
Collect requirements from business analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to inform data models.
Complex Data Models:
Develop scalable data models that align with the company’s long-term strategic goals.
Framework Formulation:
Formulate and establish data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
Best Practices Establishment:
Define and implement best practices for data modeling and ensure compatibility among different systems and data sources.
Experience:
5+ years in data management, data architecture, or related fields. Experience with pharma R&D or life sciences data domains is highly desirable.
Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Expertise in data modeling, SQL, and database design.
Experience with RDF, NoSQL, and ontology is a plus.
Experience with pharma R&D platforms, data warehouse projects, and hierarchical data models.
Communication Skills:
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in teams.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Biology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
