Purpose:
The Research Scientist, Japan Value, Evidence, and Outcomes (Japan VEO) delivers valuable evidence that addresses health outcomes issues, maximizes product value in Lilly's portfolio, and contributes to improving public health by demonstrating scientific leadership in evidence strategy development, planning, and HEOR/RWE study execution.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategy:

  • Develop and oversee local HEOR/RWE strategy for compounds in Lilly’s Japan portfolio aligned with local product strategy and global/regional HEOR/RWE strategy.

  • Drive integration of HEOR/RWE from early clinical development through commercialization.

  • Formulate and drive Patient Focused Outcome, Real World Evidence, and/or economic value strategies for priority products.

  • Provide strategic direction to address complex health outcomes challenges.

Study Development and Execution:

  • Lead local HEOR/RWE evidence planning and execution to support drug development, optimize pricing and access, and maximize post-launch product value.

  • Design and develop scientifically robust HEOR/RWE studies addressing key product gaps.

  • Apply technical expertise in statistical analysis, economic modeling, clinical trials, PFO development, and observational research methodologies.

  • Ensure timely and sustainable delivery of planned evidence.

Organizational Leadership and Influence:

  • Demonstrate scientific leadership in evidence strategy, study development, and execution.

  • Integrate with and influence key business partners and external stakeholders.

  • Apply innovative approaches to deliver best outcomes.

Information Dissemination:

  • Effectively communicate health outcomes information to internal business partners, scientific community, and customers.

  • Lead research communication efforts including abstracts, posters, presentations, promotional materials, and manuscripts.

  • Strategically apply research outcomes to maximize impact.

Environmental Awareness:

  • Maintain awareness of developments in disease states, HEOR methodologies, and relevant regulations.

  • Anticipate and evaluate future market needs and trends for HO information.

  • Influence internal and external environmental factors shaping HEOR/RWE research.

Project Management:

  • Partner with Project Managers in Japan VEO to ensure projects meet timelines, budgets, and scope.

Targeted Skills/Experience:

  • Capability/experience to execute observational research, from protocol development to statistical analysis and publication.

  • Basic statistical analysis skills using RWD database.

  • Strongly preferred: Statistical analysis programming skills (e.g., R).

  • Target literature review to support evidence and research planning.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., PharmD/Master’s) in a relevant discipline (e.g., economics, epidemiology, health services, medicine, pharmacoeconomics, psychology, statistics).

  • Significant experience in designing and conducting HEOR/RWE research and disseminating results.

  • Strong comprehension and communication skills in English and Japanese.

  • Ability to influence and collaborate across teams.

  • Strong understanding of clinical settings and clinical research.

Other Preferences:

  • Knowledge of healthcare systems in major countries.

  • Technical and analytic capabilities in economic modeling, epidemiology, statistics, and healthcare policy.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.
